2017: Announcement
On September 12, 2017 the Medtronic company announced a global exit of StealthStation ENT — the new surgical navigation system designed to help when carrying out endoscopic transactions on ENT organs (an ear, a throat, a nose). A system is already approved to use by Management of the USA on supervision of quality of foodstuff and medicines (FDA) and received a mark of conformity to the European quality standards of CE, reports the Medgadget portal.[1]
In the StealthStation ENT system the patented electromagnetic technology of tracking is used. With its help around the operated area the electromagnetic field (EMP) allowing to trace dynamically provision of surgical instruments throughout all procedure of surgical intervention by analogy with an automobile GPS system is created, the producer explains.
EMP is created by means of the radiator which is located under the patient's head that gives to medical staff bigger free space around the operating table.
Besides, the Virtual Endoscopy function allows to receive the image of cavities of okolonosovy bosoms into which it is impossible to get using the normal endoscope. The combination of this function and the pictures made before transaction gives to the doctor the chance to practice difficult and non-standard manipulations before their accomplishment on real patients.
Use of computer technologies in surgery is extremely useful as they help surgeons to gain more faithful representation about difficult anatomy of the patient when carrying out transactions on okolonosovy bosoms and a skull base, give to doctors big confidence and increase quality of the procedure — Joseph Raviv, the doctor of medicine, the manager on endoscopic surgery of okolonosovy bosoms and a skull base of the American network of NorthShore University HealthSystem hospitals which words are cited in the press release of Medtronic said concerning a system exit.[2] |
