Product
Developers: Storj Labs
Last Release Date: 2016/12/12
Technology: DWH

For February 28, 2017 Storj is the decentralized P2P-solution for cloud information storage.

On February 28, 2017 the Storj Labs company announced Storj creation - the decentralized P2P-technology of information storage. A system saves and protects files, both in nodes of network, and in the course of their transfer by means of blockchain technology and enciphering.

Storj is the project open source, it integrates community of the developers who are engaged in creation of tools, applications and safe by the initial principles, technology of cloud storage[1].

Advertizing Storj, (2016)

As envisioned by Storj, its plan of cloud data storage on a basis the blockchain will provide rather inexpensive and safe method of storage on the PC and servers remote from each other.

Storj uses blockchain technology for a guarantee of security of files and lack of ways for their viewing or hacker theft by unauthorized users.

How it works

Storj will organize joint community of lessors. These are users who lease to customers an empty seat on hard drives and capacity of the channel.

All these users unite by means of P2P-network. According to Storj, this network "on orders is safer, works up to ten times quicker and will cost half cheaper, unlike traditional technologies for cloud storage on the platform of data centers.

To store data safely and the decentralized method, uses functions a blockchain:

  • register of transactions,
  • enciphering with opened and closed by keys
  • cryptographic hash functions.

Storj offers a method of cloud data storage, returning to the user control over the devices and the data. The decentralized aspect of Storj means lack of the central servers which could be compromised, and thanks to enciphering on client side only end users have access to the decrypted files and encryption keys.

For February 28, 2017 the Storj service supports community more than 7.5 thousand lessors, its API ~ 15 thousand users in the different countries. The company works in partnership with Heroku service - the cloud platform providing services to PaaS. It allows developers to create, start and operate with applications in a cloud. Storj together with Heroku can provide to developers the distributed solution for object data storage with cryptoprotection, optimal speeds and simple installation.
