2024: Product Announcement
On February 26, 2024, Deutsche Telekom partnered with Qualcomm Technologies and Brain.ai to announce the world's first smartphone without a single application. The device called T-phone is equipped with an artificial intelligence-based voice assistant that performs certain actions in response to user commands.
The AI assistant takes over the functions of a wide range of applications: it can support all everyday tasks, which usually require several different utilities or services. For example, you can contact a chatbot with a request to find information on the Internet, book tickets, make a purchase in an online store, edit a photo or activate a camera. Like a concierge, the assistant understands the user's goals and allows you to perform tasks as efficiently as possible.
AI algorithms operate on a cloud platform. This means that the system works even on low-power devices that do not have a high-performance processor with a neural network unit and a large amount of memory. On the other hand, due to the use of the cloud, the smartphone becomes useless in the absence of an Internet connection. In addition, the reaction speed of the AI bot can deteriorate with high server utilization.
Jon Abrahamson, chief product and digital officer at Deutsche Telekom, notes that generative AI and large language models (LLMs) will become an integral part of mobile devices. They will help simplify the lives of users and speed up various tasks.
Our vision is a complete concierge for smartphones without applications. This is a real everyday satellite that meets the needs and simplifies digital life, "emphasizes Abrahamson.[1] |
