At the end of October 2022, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived at a car plant in Gemlik and launched the serial production of the domestic electric car TOGG. The head of state and his wife Emine Erdogan tested the first national electric car, and also got acquainted with the workshops where work is carried out on the body and installation of the car.

The plant will produce 175 thousand cars annually. 4.3 thousand people will be directly employed, and 20 thousand people will be indirectly employed. Until 2030, 1 million cars will be produced here, Turkey's national income will be $50 billion, and the current account deficit will be reduced by $7 billion.

Production of the first national electric car began in Turkey

The model will be produced in two versions: a sedan and an SUV. According to the developers, it will take no more than 30 minutes to charge the battery battery of any of the cars, which will allow you to travel up to 500 km. The first cars should be on sale in March 2023 in the domestic market. Electric cars will then be exported to Germany and France. The cost of electric cars has not yet been disclosed, but according to the company's forecasts, it will range from $43 to $54 thousand.

Earlier in Turkey, prototypes of the first domestic cars were presented - the electric crossover of the SUV C segment and the sedan electric car. Investments in the project will amount to $3.7 billion. The state intends to purchase 30 thousand electric vehicles by December 31, 2035. According to Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan, this project has been expected in Turkey for 60 years. Erdogan called laying the foundation of the plant a "golden link" in the chain of nationwide megaprojects.
