2025: Data center launch delay due to "equipment supply issues"

At the end of January 2025, it became known that the commissioning of the data processing center (DPC) of the Tattelecom operator could be postponed. The reason for the delay is the difficulties with the supply of equipment.

We are talking about a data center with an area of about 3 thousand square meters on Nikolai Ershov Street in Kazan. Construction of the facility began in November 2023. The data center is designed to accommodate 400 telecommunication racks. The declared level of reliability is Tier3. Such data centers provide the possibility of repair and modernization without disconnecting the equipment and stopping work. The data centers corresponding to the Tier3 have two power inputs, and the active equipment is redundant according to the N + 1 scheme. Fault tolerance reaches 99,982%, which means that the downtime of such an object will not exceed 1.6 hours a year. In the case of the Tattelecom data center, the transformer substation with a capacity of 1.8 MW with a reserve of up to 3.6 MW will provide power.

Tattelecom delays the launch of the data center due to "issues with the supply of equipment"

The new data center is designed to process, analyze and protect critical IT data both from Tattelecom itself and from other organizations. In addition, the data center will help resolve the issue of infrastructure expansion due to the rapid growth in traffic volumes. At the same time, the provision of cloud storage services can stimulate the development of other related industries, such as software development, cybersecurity and information analytics. The project is being implemented in two stages, and it was originally planned to complete the construction in 2026. But when creating the site, questions arose with the supply of equipment, as reported by the general director of Tattelecom Airat Nurutdinov.

2023: Construction begins

At the end of November 2023, Tattelecom began building a large data center (DPC), which will be used, among other things, for deep computing. The volume of investments in this project has not been disclosed.

The head of the Executive Committee of Kazan Rustem Gafarov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Tattelecom, General Director of OJSC Svyazinvestneftekhim Valery Sorokin and General Director of OJSC Network Company Ilshat Fardiev also took part in the ceremony dedicated to the start of the construction of the data center.

It is also planned to build an administrative office center for 200 jobs and implement a scientific and educational cluster on the basis of a computing center with the support of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. The facilities will be built in two queues, work will be completed in 2026.

At the end of November 2023, Nurutdinov, speaking about the importance of this project, noted a twofold increase in traffic from the company in 4 years, which, according to him, naturally requires a solution to the issue of data protection and processing.

It is noted that the computing center will solve the problems of processing, analyzing critical data of IT systems of both the company itself and other enterprises and ensuring their protection from unauthorized access. The data center will also make it possible to form a base for training students and scientists in the field of computational sciences and data analysis, Tattelecom noted[2]
