2025: Product Announcement

On May 9, 2025, Teal Health announced the first home test to detect cervical cancer. A product called Teal Wand is an alternative to the traditional Pap smear (pap test).

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common type of malignancy in women on a global scale, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). According to estimates, in 2020 there were about 604 thousand new cases of the disease and 342 thousand deaths from it. The cause of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus (HPV). Almost all people who have active sex are infected at one point or another, usually without symptoms. In most cases, the immune system clears the body of HPV. However, persistent HPV infection can stimulate the development of abnormal cells that turn into a malignant formation. The disease can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and immediately begin therapy.

First home test for cervical cancer released

A pap test can identify precancerous or cancerous cells in the vagina and cervix. The procedure provides for the capture of biomaterial using a special cervical brush. But for most women, the process is uncomfortable. The Teal Wand test is designed to solve the problem: you can collect samples at home at any convenient time.

According to Teal Health, the product provides the same diagnostic accuracy as standard procedures. Women aged 25 to 65 can use the Teal Wand test. Samples obtained at home are sent to a certified laboratory for processing. The product has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[1]
