Thousands of Tesla electric cars defective - their headlights fall off

Due to the problem of fixing a light panel designed for cross-country driving American , the manufacturer of electric cars Tesla initiates a recall of about 6.2 thousand Cybertruck electric drinks. This was announced at the end of October 2025 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (USA NHTSA).

Some 2024 Cybertruck models are subject to recall, according to the statement. As indicated in the press release, there is a possibility that the installation of the light panel did not properly treat the surface, which could lead to loosening of the attachment or even disconnection of the panel from the windshield.

The regulator draws attention to the fact that the separation of the light panel during the ride creates a threat to surrounding vehicles and can increase the likelihood of an accident. Tesla will conduct a free inspection of the panel and, if necessary, install an additional fastener or replace it.

This is not the first case of a recall campaign at Tesla. According to Reuters, in March 2025, the company initiated the recall of 46,096 copies of the Cybertruck in the United States to reinstall steel body elements that could detach while driving. The greatest concern was steel linings stretching from the base of the windshield to the rear doors. Tesla planned to fix the problem using a more reliable, environmentally resistant adhesive, as well as additional fixing parts.

According to Reuters, in 2024 Tesla topped the list in terms of the number of reviews in the United States: its cars accounted for 5.1 million recall cases, according to the review management firm BizzyCar. However, most problems with Tesla-branded cars were usually solved with over-the-air software updates. [1]

Cybertruck sales problems: 10 thousand electric vehicles are gathering dust in warehouses, no one needs them

In May 2025, it became known about Tesla's serious difficulties with the implementation of the futuristic Cybertruck electric pickup. More than 10 thousand unsold cars have accumulated in the warehouses of the American automaker, which is about 25% of the total number of models produced. The cost of these reserves is estimated at approximately $800 million.

According to Vice, after the initial excitement, when more than a million pre-orders were announced, Cybertruck sales fell sharply. In the first quarter of 2025, only about 6,400 units were sold, which is 50% less than in the last quarter of 2024. Current inventory is equivalent to about two quarters of sales with existing demand.

Tesla has problems with Cybertruck sales: 10 thousand electric vehicles are gathering dust in warehouses, no one needs them

In response to a decrease in consumer interest, Tesla reduced production of Cybertruck at its Texas factory, transferring some employees to the assembly of the more popular Model Y. If the company originally planned to produce 250,000 pickups per year, then according to current forecasts, Tesla may not be able to sell even 20 thousand units.

One of the reasons for the fall in demand was a significant increase in prices. Initially, the promised cost of $39,900 for the base Cybertruck model increased significantly. At the moment, the base version with rear-wheel drive is offered for $60,990, and the top-end three-engine Cyberbeast model is offered for $99,990. In addition, the company canceled plans to release an additional battery worth $16,000, which was supposed to increase the range to 470 miles, and began returning deposits made for this accessory to customers.

A serious blow to the reputation of the model was the problems with the quality of the assembly. In March 2025, Tesla suspended deliveries of the Cybertruck after reports that body panels attached with glue were peeling off while driving. This led to a large-scale recall of all cars produced at that time - more than 46 thousand units.[2]

Body parts fall off in all Tesla Cybertruck electric cars sold

In March 2025, Tesla announced the recall of all Cybertruck electric pickup trucks sold in the United States from November 2023 to February 17, 2025. The reason for the mass recall was a serious problem with body panels, which can come off while driving, creating emergency situations on the road.

According to Reuters, the problem is related to a curved stainless steel body panel that stretches from the base of the windshield to the rear door. The design uses an adhesive that loses its properties over time, which causes the parts to detach. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) emphasized that this defect can cause road accidents.

All Tesla Cybertruck electric vehicles sold have problems with falling off body parts

The recall campaign included 46.1 thousand Tesla Cybertruck electric drinks. In service centers, the company's specialists will update the glue for free and additionally mechanically strengthen the fastening of parts. Despite the large-scale recall, the company believes that only 1% of all produced machines can show a defect.

This isn't the first time Tesla Cybertruck owners have had problems with body parts. According to Elektrek, the company has already delayed sending pickups to customers due to falling trim parts. One of the customers shared a screenshot from Tesla's service application, where a company representative explained that the problem arose with the cantrail trim - a decorative part that covers the protrusion of the roof of the car.

Despite Tesla touting the Cybertruck as a "bulletproof, exoskeleton electric cap," its design is closer to a traditional solid body. Most of the outer panels are not part of the supporting structure, but are simply attached to the body as pads, which leads to similar problems.

In total, Tesla Cybertruck has been involved in recall campaigns eight times since production began in 2023. At the end of 2024, a malfunction of the drive inverter was revealed, which could lead to a sudden loss of traction when the accelerator pedal was pressed. In the summer of 2024, the company recalled almost 12 thousand electric drinks due to incorrect operation of the wiper motor and loosely adjacent finishing of the luggage compartment.[3]

Electric Vehicle Uncontrollability Due to Software Update

At the end of December 2024, numerous reports began to arrive from the owners of Tesla Cybertruck electric pickups that the next official update of the onboard software makes their cars unmanageable. Machines stop responding to commands, becoming completely inoperable.

It is noted that problems arise when installing the update version 2024.45.25.5 (FSD 13.2.2), which introduces innovations related to autonomous management. Motorists write that after the update, their Cybertruck pickups turn into a "brick." To eliminate the failure, you have to transport an electric car to a service center on a tow truck. Tesla experts confirm the existence of serious problems.

According to some reports, the problem may be related to the new on-board computer HW4 (Tesla Hardware 4). This system is claimed to have less RAM and built-in flash memory compared to HW3 (at least in Model Y and Model 3 cars). The transition to HW4 is associated with an improvement in the FSD (Full Self Driving) platform. However, many buyers of electric vehicles with a new on-board computer complain of failures, including navigation failure, inoperability of various sensors, etc. The problems are widespread: Tesla service centers are overloaded with applications, and the company itself, as of the end of December 2024, does not name specific deadlines for troubleshooting.[4]

Transmission failure in thousands of defective cars leads to the fact that cars simply stop driving

In mid-November 2024, Tesla announced the recall of Cybertruck electric pickups. The problem associated with a malfunction of the drive inverter leads to the fact that cars simply stop driving - this significantly increases the risk of a road accident.

As noted in the notification of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration USA (NHTSA), the defect is associated with the fact that the car ceases to provide torque when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. This is accompanied by an unexpected loss of traction, which can turn into an accident - for example, when a motorist needs to speed up quickly to perform any maneuver. When overtaking on the track, this behavior of an electric car can entail severe consequences.

thousands of defective cars Tesla fails transmission

Approximately 2,430 Cybertruck electric vehicles of the 2024 model range are subject to recall. The situation is aggravated by the fact that it is impossible to eliminate the defect by updating the onboard software "over the air." The problem is physical, and therefore the owners of defective cars will have to deliver them to service centers. Tesla will replace the faulty drive inverter with a new one - work will be carried out free of charge for owners.

Elon Musk's company said in a statement that low-quality inverters were used in production cars from November 6, 2023 to July 30, 2024. As of mid-November 2024, at least five incidents related to the described problem are known. At the same time, there is no information about road accidents or injuries. In April 2024, Tesla recalled Cybertruck cars to eliminate the defect of the accelerator pedal pad, and in June - due to problems with wipers and exterior trim.[5]

Tens of thousands of defective Tesla electric drinks have parts falling off while driving

Tesla again faced serious problems in the production of its Cybertruck electric drinks, as a result of which it was decided to recall more than 23 thousand cars. This became known on June 25, 2024. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration USA (NHTSA), a significant number of cars have been found to have defects that can create a danger on the road.

Almost 11.7 thousand electric drinks have a malfunction of the windshield wiper drive electric motor, which can significantly worsen the driver's visibility and increase the risk of accidents. The problem concerns all machines produced from November 13, 2023 to June 6, 2024.

More than 11.38 thousand cars are recalled due to a defect in the trunk lining, which may be incorrectly attached. As Interfax notes, such a malfunction can lead to the fact that the skin will come off while driving, creating a danger to other road users.

Tesla officials said they have not yet received reports of an accident, injury or death related to those defects. However, to prevent possible incidents, the company decided to carry out a free replacement of faulty parts.

According to Interfax, Cybertruck owners will be officially notified of the recall starting August 18. As part of the recall program, Tesla will offer free replacement of windshield wiper motors.

This is Cybertruck's second major recall in the last six months of 2024. Earlier, in April 2024, several owners reported problems with the accelerator pedal, which also led to the recall of a significant number of cars. In addition, users continue to complain about a variety of technical problems, including problems with wipers and coolant leaks.[6]

Recall of thousands of pickup trucks due to falling off gas pedal

On April 17, 2024 USA , the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall of electric pickups. Tesla Cybertruck The problem is related to the accelerator pedal, which can fall off during movement. This increases the risk of a traffic accident.

Tesla said in a statement that all Cybertruck cars of the 2024 model range are subject to recall. Such pickups were produced from November 13, 2023 to April 4, 2024. The defect leads to the fact that when you press the gas pedal, the decorative metal pad can be disconnected from it. There is a possibility that this cover can then get stuck between the pedal and the interior skin. As a result, the pedal is blocked, which makes control of the car deteriorate. In certain conditions, this can provoke an accident.

The recall affects 3878 Cybertruck electric drinks. Moreover, the described problem is relevant for all these machines. Tesla emphasizes that in case of problems with the accelerator pedal, the driver can press the brake at any time, which will stop the car. In this case, the onboard computer will give audio and visual signals that both the gas pedal and the brake pedal are simultaneously pressed.

Depending on the case, Tesla will perform a repair or complete replacement of the accelerator pedal assembly. In the first case, the procedure will take no more than 15 minutes, in the second - approximately 40 minutes. All work will be carried out free of charge for motorists. Cybertruck owners can sign up for service using the Tesla app. It is noted that at the time of the start of the recall campaign, there were no reports of any incidents or accidents related to the indicated problem.[7]

2023: The range of the Tesla Cybertruck electric drink was half the declared

In mid-July 2023, it became known that the actual range of the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup truck was approximately half that declared during the presentation of the car in 2019.

During the announcement of the project, it was said that Cybertruck will be released with four power platform options. It is a single-engine rear-wheel drive with a range of 250 miles (402 km); four-wheel drive with two engines and a range of 300 miles (483 km); three-engine four-wheel drive with a range of 500 miles (804 km); four-engine four-wheel drive with a range of 620 miles (998 km). Serial production of the Cybertruck electric pickup began in July 2023 at the Tesla plant in Texas.

According to the resource InsideEVs, the Cybertruck battery pack is capable of providing a range of 350 miles (563 km) instead of the mentioned 620 miles. For comparison, the range of the Chevrolet Silverado EV electric pickup truck is 450 miles (724 km). And the Ford F-150 Lightning electric car, when equipped with the Extended-Range package, provides a maximum range on a single charge of 320 miles (515 km).

Deutsche Bank analyst Emmanuel Rosner believes that in 2023 Tesla will deliver approximately 2,000 copies of the Cybertruck, which is a small part of the 1.78 million cars that Elon Musk's company intends to ship at the end of this year. At the same time, Tesla admits that it will not be easy to increase the production volumes of the pickup truck, since its unique design creates certain difficulties. In particular, difficulties are associated with the manufacture and assembly of a stainless steel body.

File:Aquote1.png
It will be difficult to make the price available because it is a new car, a new method of production. By and large, compared to the production volumes of all our cars, the production of a pickup truck will be small. But still very cool, - said Musk.[8]
