Tinkoff on November 10, 2022 informed TAdviser about the development and launch of its own corporate messenger TiMe (Tinkoff Messenger).

As specified in the bank, the development of the messenger began after in March 2022 the Slack corporate messenger (which was previously used at Tinkoff) announced the completion of work with clients from Russia. The free version of Slack does not allow you to work with a huge amount of data exchanged in large companies.

The basis for its own development was the open source messenger Mattermost: according to the bank, it received a higher rating of functionality and user experience among employees, and during load testing it showed results 75% better than analogues.

As of November 10, 2022, the entire staff of Tinkoff headquarters already uses it - more than 20 thousand employees. With the connection of the operating divisions of Tinkoff, the number of users, according to the bank's estimates, will exceed 50 thousand people.

Only Tinkoff specialists worked on the messenger - outsourcing was not considered due to the critical importance of the product for business processes. The team developed their own data transfer solution, thanks to which it was possible to launch TiMe just 2 months after the start of work.

At the start, the Tinkoff team implemented:

  • High Availability Interface - this refinement increases the availability and performance of the messenger;
  • SSO interface - single and secure login to the application;
  • Search interface - search for messages, contacts, files;
  • Application metrics - with their help, you can quickly respond to incidents and take preventive measures;
  • Workflows - functionality allows you to automate routine processes based on a corporate messenger without writing code.

During the move to Mattermost, Tinkoff specialists made more than 200 changes. In a short time, the "Drafts" section was added, the user profile, the desktop and mobile update mechanism were redesigned, some bugs and application states were fixed, the "Deferred and regular messages" and "Message reminders" functions were implemented, the message editor and some search and group creation screens were developed.

In the original version of Mattermost, on a smaller number of users, availability reached only 96%. As a result of the transition to its own messenger, the availability for 20 thousand users is approximately 99.7% and is growing monthly. According to Tinkoff's calculations, availability will be 99.99% by the end of the year.
