2021: Integration into Yandex AON
On November 3, 2021, the company Tinkoff"" announced that integrated the Tinkoff Call Defender platform, which recognizes the substitution of official bank numbers, in the number determiner (AON). " Yandex Now subscribers of any, mobile operators including small regional ones, will receive notifications of calls allegedly from the safety bank Tinkoff swing number service.
The integration of the two services allows you to automatically detect suspicious calls in real time and warn users about it. The free Yandex AON, reinforced by Tinkoff technologies, will become an element of protecting subscribers of regional operators, most of which do not have similar services and other fraud recognition mechanisms. In addition, the service will act as an additional protection for Big Four subscribers.
When the call arrives, the AON checks whether this number belongs to the Tinkoff group. If so, a notification of this is sent to Tinkoff. Next, the Tinkoff Call Defender platform checks whether the call was actually initiated by the bank. If the authentication of the call does not arrive, the platform fixes the number substitution and informs the AON about it. After that, the determiner notifies the client that the call is fraudulent, and it is better not to pick up the phone.
Thus, the service protects the user from fraud using social engineering and replacing Tinkoff numbers. If the subscriber nevertheless decides to answer the call, the AON will notify Tinkoff about this. This will allow the bank to use its own antifrode technologies based on artificial intelligence technologies and take measures on time to protect the client's funds. For example, Tinkoff may suspend atypical transactions on a bank card after a suspicious call to the client until the circumstances are clarified.

= says Alexey Baklanov, head of security of the Tinkoff ecosystem.|"Calls from the supposedly security service of the bank and, in general, social engineering are a serious problem, its share is almost 80% of all cases of
fraud.
We are pleased to announce cooperation with Yandex, our joint decision will allow us to warn customers about changing the number and act ahead of schedule - to prevent fraud even before the client picked up the phone and began a conversation with attackers.
According to our estimate, 6% of all calls that pass through the Yandex number determinant as bank ones are made with a number substitution.
The market has similar solutions in the framework of cooperation between some banks and individual mobile operators, but, unfortunately, they do not cover 100% of all Russian subscribers. Our platform is a free alternative that will notify all customers of the replacement of the number, regardless of which carrier they use, "-}}
The Number Swap Protection feature is only available on Android devices. To protect yourself from changing numbers, you need to install the Yandex and Tinkoff applications and enable AON. You can enable the number determiner in your device settings or by using the Alice voice assistant.
2020: Tinkoff Call Defender Launch
On December 8, 2020, Tinkoff announced the launch of Tinkoff Call Defender, a platform for preventing fraud using phone calls as part of the development of Tinkoff Defense's own customer security system. The platform is developed in partnership with mobile operators, including Tele2, Megafon, MTS and Tinkoff Mobile.
Tinkoff became a bank that tested and introduced into its antifrode platform technology developed by the largest mobile operators - Megafon, Tele2, MTS. It is designed to protect customers from the most common method of telephone fraud - social engineering and, in particular, from telephone calls with number substitution.
The Tinkoff Call Defender antifrode platform, piloted since February 2020, combines an antifrode solution developed by mobile operators, as well as Tinkoff's own anti-fraud technologies. At the first stage, Tinkoff Call Defender allows you to determine the nature of various types and scenarios of fraudulent calls, including number substitution, in 8 out of 10 cases.
The service will work automatically and free for customers of the Tinkoff ecosystem, who are simultaneously subscribers of the participating operators of the project.
The antifrode platform provides for the exchange of data between the bank and mobile operators in real time. With the help of special software, at the time of a call, the data of service participants is automatically synchronized and suspicious phone calls are detected.
In this way, the system detects suspicious incoming calls that may be fraudulent.
One of the common fraud schemes is calls from swing bank numbers. During such calls, the platform determines whether the call is actually initiated by the bank. If no authentication is received, the platform captures the number as suspicious and sends a message about it to the bank. Such a signal can serve as an additional marker to protect the client's funds from unauthorized debit - in conjunction with the bank's own antifrode technologies. For example, Tinkoff may suspend atypical transactions on a bank card after a suspicious call to the client until the circumstances are clarified.
We began to study and pilot this technology with our partners since February 2020. We are building a comprehensive antifrode system to protect our customers and have long been looking for an effective "cure" for social engineering. Now we can say that Tinkoff Call Defender allows you to take the security of Tinkoff ecosystem customers to a new level. We are grateful to our partners - MTS, Tele2, Megafon and Tinkoff Mobile - for the painstaking work that made it possible to create a really working solution to combat fraud. The results of the pilot showed that the telecom solution works especially efficiently together with our own antifrode technologies. For example, we form a database of fraudulent numbers ourselves, as well as other factors that we cannot disclose - for obvious reasons. We check if someone called the client from the perimeter of the bank and transfer to the antifrode system, if there was no such call. We build antifrode logic based on these features, which works on the basis of machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies , - says Alexey Baklanov, head of ecosystem security at Tinkoff |
