2024: Product Announcement

On August 21, 2024, the American company Teleflex announced the release of the Titan SGS tool, the world's first surgical stapler designed specifically for bariatric surgery. In particular, the device is suitable for performing sleeve gastroplasty operations.

Longitudinal resection of the stomach, or sleeve gastroplasty, is a surgical method of dealing with overweight. During the procedure, the main part of the stomach is removed, as a result of which a thin tube in the form of a sleeve with a small curvature remains. Thus, the patient can only take a small amount of food, which contributes to rapid weight loss. Since the intestinal tract is not affected by such an operation, there is no deficiency of vitamins and minerals. The effect of sleeve gastroplasty surgery on weight approaches gastric bypass.

According to the developer, Titan SGS provides surgeons performing sleeve gastroplasty procedures with the longest continuous stitching line in the industry - 23 cm. The tool is designed to provide a more uniform and symmetrical sleeve anatomy. Intelligent tissue recognition technology and improved stitching safety features help track load, which contributes to the best results. The system uses visual and audible status indicators to provide real-time feedback to the surgeon.

Titan SGS has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Teleflex emphasizes that this is the first and only single-action surgical stapler designed and designed specifically for longitudinal gastric resection. The device is also available with Bond Line Reinforcement (SLR).[1]
