2023: Robot Surgeon Announcement
On May 30, 2023, the American company Think Surgical, based in Fremont, announced the compact robotic system Tmini, designed to perform complex knee operations.
We are talking about total endoprosthesis of the knee joint. The essence of the procedure boils down to replacing damaged or destroyed natural tissues with artificial ones. Such intervention can be indicated due to serious injuries or due to wear of the knee joint due to overweight, inflammation, etc.
The Tmini system includes a robotic tip of a special design that helps surgeons perform a complete knee replacement. According to a three-dimensional model based on computed tomography, the device automatically compensates for the movement of the surgeon's hand, which helps to place the bone pins in a certain position with high accuracy. Special guides are then connected to bone pins to facilitate bone resection. The Tmini system is claimed to be easy to use and replaces many traditional tools that are used for total knee replacement. In general, the use of Tmini allows you to increase the effectiveness of complex knee operations.
Many robotic surgery solutions companies offer a unique set of their own implants for their platforms. Think Surgical says it aims to form an open ecosystem with the ability to use products from a variety of suppliers. It is assumed that this approach will expand the customer base and interest those medical institutions that are reluctant to implement robotic complexes due to the limited choice of components and consumables.[1]
