Toshiba ALxxxx-series Hard drives

Toshiba ALxxxx is a series of hard drives for servers and storage systems.

2018: AL15SE

The Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH company at the beginning of January, 2018 provided hard drives of the AL15SE series — the next generation of high-performance corporate hard drives with rotating speed 10500 RPM for crucial servers and storages. In this series the model with a capacity of 2400 GB is provided that is 33% more in comparison with generation of Toshiba AL14SE — the most capacious drive among all hard drives of Toshiba with rotating speed 10500 RPM, claim in the company.

Toshiba AL15SE series

Devices of the AL15SE series are developed for work with a low delay and support the interface of 12 Gbps [2] SAS with two ports for optimization of a data exchange rate about a host device. All models are produced in an energy efficient form factor 2.5 inches 15 mm thick. According to TEE, models with Advanced Format technology support the standard size of the sector of 4 Kb and emulation of the size of the sector of 512 bytes, increasing recording density in devices with a capacity from 600 to 2400 GB and providing 15% increase in stabilized speed of data transmission in comparison with the previous generation of AL14SE. Models with technology of sectors 512n allow to increase recording density in devices with a capacity from 300 to 1200 GB.

Hard drives of the AL15SE series provide higher capacity counting on one spindle that does them by an optimal solution for the traditional IT systems and crucial hybrid platforms of data storage focused on performance. Decrease in a delay can also increase efficiency of work of IT solutions with high intensity of data reading — Noriaki Katakura, the CEO of division of hard drives of Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH company says.

Devices of the AL15SE series include also models with the additional SIE function (Sanitize Instant Erase) and use technology of a non-volatile write cache for protection of integrity of data in situations with possible unexpected shutdown of power supply. The provided models are intended for crucial servers and storage systems of the first level, including hybrid platforms of data storage which performance of work can be increased due to decrease in a delay time and use of devices with a capacity up to 2400 GB.

As of January 9, 2018, deliveries of fact-finding samples of the disks AL15SE already began.

2017: AL14SX

On June 20, 2017 the Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) company announced release of hard drives of the AL14SX series with rotating speed of 15 thousand RPM. As a part of a series model with a capacity of 900 GB.

HDD AL14SX, (2017)

The AL14SX series is provided by devices with a capacity of 300, 600 and 900 GB in a form factor 2.5 inches 15 mm thick. Models support technologies with traditional sizes of the sector of 512 bytes and 4 Kb, with emulation of sectors of 512 bytes in size for improvement of compatibility with standard applications and working environments in the field of data storage.

At data transfer rate of 290 MiB / with (2432.69632 Mbps) at model with support of technology 4Kn/512e for nominal energy consumption of 5.6 W the AL14SX series provides increase in the maximum stabilized speed of data transmission for 19% and characteristics of energy efficiency (W/GB) for 28.7% in comparison with the previous generation of AL13SX.

Models of the effective corporate hard drives AL14SX with a capacity of 900 GB are logical expansion of the AL13SX series. They precisely conform to requirements of servers and storage systems of the last generation. The AL14SX series includes as model with a standard size of the sector (512n), and models with Advanced Format technology, and provides performance and capacity for the crucial working tasks requiring a low delay and exclusive integrity of data.
