Toshiba NAS Hard Drive (N300) is a line of internal hard drives for network drives (NAS).

2021:  18TB NAS HDD N300

On September 16, 2021, Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH announced that it had replenished the N300 NAS and X300 Performance hard drive lines with 18  TB models equipped with Flux Control technology - Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR Magnetic), which was already announced with the help of 2021 Magnetic, or "Control of Flow."

FC-MAMR uses the Torque Oscillator (STO) technology to better control and effectively focus the magnetic flux generated in the hard disk recording head (HDD). The focused stream provides greater accuracy in recording and requires less magnetic area per bit. As a result, data storage density is higher than previous generation hard drives based on CMR technology ("ordinary magnetic recording").

The use of FC-MAMR allowed to increase the density stores by 12.5%, due to which it was possible to add 2  TB to the capacity of previous Toshiba models with a volume of 16  TB.

The N300 and X300 are available in the standard 3.5 "format, but they use a nine-disk design with a helium seal. The laser welding methods developed by the Toshiba Group allow you to hold helium inside.

The N300 series is optimized for use in home offices and in small enterprises network storages () NAS and private cloudy storages with up to eight drive bays. The drives rotate at 7200  rpm and are equipped with built-in RV sensors to compensate for rotational vibrations. Designed for 24 hours a day, 7 days a day, and with 1.2  million hours of MTTF disks , it achieves a nominal workload of up to 180  TB/year.

Designed for PERSONAL COMPUTER both high-performance desktop workstations game , consoles, and home multimedia, the X300 series also delivers 7,200  rpm. Stabilization mechanisms have improved operational reliability, time while Toshiba Group caching technology optimizes cache allocation during reading and writing to ensure high real-time performance.

According to the company, all N300 series drives are provided with a three-year limited warranty, and X300 series drives are provided with a two-year limited warranty. It is expected that the N300 and X300 models with a capacity of 18 TB will be on sale in the 4th quarter of 2021.

2019: HDD N300 NAS 16 TB

On September 3, 2019, Toshiba Electronics Europe announced the release of 16 TB of helium-filled N300 NAS and X300 Performance series hard drives. The capacity of 16-terabyte hard drives is 14% more than the capacity of models by 14 TB. In addition, the buffer capacity in 16 TB models is 512 MB, which is twice as much as in 14 TB drives. More details here.

Replenishment of the line with 12 and 14 TB models

On December 6, 2018, Toshiba's European division announced the replenishment of the N300 NAS Hard Drive line of hard drives and the X300 Performance Hard Drive line of high-performance hard drives with 12 and 14 TB models.

According to the company, 3.5-inch hard drives use helium, which allows them to provide more capacity and reduce power consumption. At the same time, the laser welding technology developed by Toshiba and the special design of the storage case completely eliminate gas leakage.

Both versions of hard drives run at 7,200 rpm and use a 256-MB data buffer. The N300 and X300 also use Toshiba Stable Platter Technology, which minimizes vibration by stabilizing both ends of the engine shaft to improve positioning accuracy and hard disk performance during the read/write process.

The model for the N300 line uses angular vibration sensors, and it is able to achieve data transfer speeds of up to 260 MB/s (14 TB version) and up to 253 MB/s (12 TB version) by December 2018. With support for RAID arrays with 8 hard drives, the N300 drives are suitable for NAS systems where the number of drives needs to increase over time as the amount of user data that you need to access on an ongoing basis grows.

N300 hard drives for network drives are designed for use in high-performance NAS systems for home and small businesses, for example, for scalable RAID arrays. They provide high performance, reliability and durability - the main requirements for high-capacity storage systems that work in 24/7 mode. Also, drives are protected by a three-year warranty.

The presented drive models will appear on sale in December 2018.

Up to 10 TB HDD Release

On April 20, 2018, representatives of the European division of Toshiba announced the expansion of the line of internal hard drives and introduced the N300 series with increased capacity and a large storage buffer compared to previous generations. The N300 NAS Hard Drive series is complemented by up to 10 TB models with increased cache.

The 3.5-inch hard drive N300 NAS Hard Drive (N300) is designed for use in personal networks, home offices, and small business networked storage, such as scalable RAID systems. The memory capacity of hard drives of this family has expanded to 10 TB (in 2017 it was 8 TB), and the devices themselves have become more productive and reliable, which is critical for 24-hour large-capacity data stores, Toshiba emphasized.

Rotation of elements in the 10 TB model reaches 7200 rpm, stable data transfer rate is up to 248 MB/s, the amount of data buffer is increased to 256 MB. All disks are equipped with rotary vibration sensors (RV) and support a workload of 180 TB/year. Toshiba has also introduced Stable Platter technology into its products, which, according to the developer, provides high performance, reliability, durability and scalability in multi-port NAS systems: they store large amounts of data that should be available at any time.

The presented models became part of the Toshiba concept for internal and external hard drives "Write down your history." As part of this initiative, each family of internal hard drives will be encoded in the appropriate color: NAS (N300) - gold. The markings will appear on both the device label and the packaging, which will help you to more easily navigate the capabilities of each category of hard drives.

The device has been available to customers in Russia since May 2018.

2017: Release of 3.5-inch HDD with a capacity of 4 and 6 TB

On January 24, 2017, the storage department of the European division of Toshiba announced the release of a line of 3.5-inch internal hard drives for network drives (NAS) for organizing a home office, installing in small enterprises, for use in personal computers.

HDD N300, (2016)

The N300 line is designed for NAS, the main requirements for which are reliability and uninterrupted access to large amounts of data at any time. With up to eight hard drive bays in RAID-enabled NAS, the user can increase the capacity and number of drives in the system as their needs grow.

N300 line hard drives are available in 4 and 6 TB versions with a large 128-MB data buffer. Toshiba Dynamic Data Caching Technology, a standalone caching algorithm with built-in buffer management, optimizes the read/write process to improve drive performance to the level required for real-time data.

Toshiba Stable Platter technology - a coupled spindle motor stabilizes the shaft of the hard disk engine at both ends of it to reduce the level of vibration that occurs during operation. Reliability of the design increases the use of durable components that withstand work in adverse conditions, and supports Ramp Load technology, which reduces the level of wear on the drive head.

N300 hard drives will appear on sale in January 2017 at a price of ~ 13,700 rubles. for 4 TB and ~ 23,950 rubles. for 6 TB device.
