2022: Near-line Hard Drive Capacity Plan
On March 9, 2022, Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH announced that the parent company, Toshiba Electronic Devices and Storage Corporation, introduced a strategy for the development of its Nearline range of hard drives. The company plans to use technological engineering solutions to increase the capacity of drives.
It is expected that the next generation of Closer class Toshiba hard drives will reach 35 TB by the end of fiscal year 2024 and exceed 40 TB by 2026. These goals will be achieved by increasing the number of magnetic layers (up to eleven) in combination with the use of patented Toshiba recording technologies. The use of microwave magnetic recording technologies with FC-MAMR (Flux-Controlled Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording) and microwave magnetic recording with MAS-MAMR (Microwave Assisted Switching Recording) switching and MAS-MAMR (Microwave Switching Microwave-Assisted Recording) will also significantly increase the recording density of Recording/Magnetic. With this, Toshiba will be able to continue to increase the capacity of drives in the long run, while reducing their total cost of ownership.
"We live information in peace. Consumption and use data is an integral part of our daily lives. Flows information increase every day, and most of the generated data needs to be placed in, cloud which has a significant impact on the sector. We Data Storage have held detailed consultations with major operators cloud services to find out what storage requirements they will impose in the future. Our high-density FC-MAMR and MAS-MAMR drives not only provide them with the necessary storage capacity, but also feature high read and write performance, as well as long life, "- says Larry Martinez-Palomo, CEO of Storage Products at Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH. |
