Kioxia E3.S on the basis of the Kioxia CM6 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1.4 solid state drive
On June 30, 2020 the KIOXIA Europe company announced development and the beginning of deliveries of technical samples of the corporate and intended for data processing centers SSD in the form factor (EDSFF) of E3.S standardized by the technical working group of SNIA SFF TA.
Thanks to a combination of the estimated E3.S models + servers of 2U in size, KIOXIA executes target estimates of devices with suppliers of servers, such as system performance assessment, heat release check, etc.
E3.S is the standard of a form factor of NVMe solid state drives for cloud and corporate data processing centers focused on the bus PCIe 5.0 above. Emergence of E3.S will promote design and development of systems of new generation — cloud, hyper convergent and universal servers and also arrays of All Flash Array (AFA) in cloud and corporate data processing centers, consider in KIOXIA. The E3.S specification allows to change the sizes, power and capacity of the drive when preserving the general connector. EDSFF E3.S is developed for future generations of PCIe with higher level of energy consumption, provides the improved performance, cooling and flexibility in comparison with other form factors.
As noted in KIOXIA, the technical samples KIOXIA E3.S on the basis of the KIOXIA CM6 PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1.4 solid state drive in a 2.5-inch form factor showed approximately for 35% performance above with the same controller and a flash memory of BiCS FLASH 3D TLC in a form factor of EDSFF E3.S with four tracks and 28 W (+40%).
Among features of EDSFF E3.S mentioned by the producer:
- More high density a flash memory which provides productive capacity utilization and the occupied space at deployment of a system rack.
- Support of PCIe 5.0 above thanks to integrity of a signal.
- The improved coolings and thermal characteristics.
- The improved performance and other indicators in comparison with a 2.5-inch form factor.
- Information on a status of the drive can be displayed by means of LED indicators.
- Support of the PCIe configurations with 8 tracks.
Availability of a line of PCIe solid state drives 4.0 CM6 classes Enterprise
On March 2, 2020 the Kioxia Europe company announced that its line of solid state drives (SSD) of PCIe 4.0 NVMe of a corporate class and a class of DPC is available to delivery to clients now. Development of PCI Express 4.0 technology was directed to twofold performance improvement of the client, server systems and storage systems, ensuring data transfer rate up to 16.0 GT/with (a gigatransfer per second to the line), guaranteeing at the same time new performance levels for cloud and corporate applicaions. 2019: Announcement of CM6
On August 29, 2019 the Toshiba Memory Europe company announced creation of the SSD disks with the PCIe 4.0 NVMe interface providing the speed of consecutive reading more than 6.4 GB / page.
According to the company, SSD disks of CM6 series support two ports PCIe Gen4 with 4 lines and conform to the NVMe 1.4 standard. A series of corporate SSD disks with the NVMe interface will be produced in in a form factor 2.5 inches. In it devices with a capacity from 800 GB to 30 TB with durability from 1 to 3 cycles of rewriting of a disk in day will be provided.
We are glad to provide successful development of the Toshiba Memory CM series – CM6 models which open access to the last achievements in development of standards of the PCIe interface for our clients in Europe, on and in Africa. PCIe Gen4 standard eliminates restrictions in the speed of the interface and gives the chance to completely use performance a flash memory of NAND in the applications and systems requiring high high-speed performance. Constantly increasing data storage density on a disk and continuing implementation of support of work with two ports, we can meet requirements of our clients to the capacity of devices and lack of a uniform point of failure in corporate systems and storage systems. |
