2022: Creation of a unified IT system to combat counterfeiting

Marketplaces Wildberries, Ozon and Yandex Market have created a common information system with information about counterfeit sellers to prevent its distribution. About this in the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT; a solution was implemented on the basis of this site) reported on August 9, 2022.

The system includes data on cases of placement of counterfeit goods, information about their seller, as well as documents confirming the violation. After that, the marketplace that discovered the counterfeit blocks the offer to sell it on its platforms. The rest of the sites, if the data matches, can request documents from the seller, and in their absence or unreliability, can also block the offer at home.

Marketplaces in Russia have created a single IT system

Online platforms carry out unprecedented work with the help of their internal tools for moderating the assortment, thanks to this work, counterfeit is 0.1% of the total number of goods, says AKIT President Artem Sokolov. - However, it is, and this is a blow to the reputation of online commerce. The establishment of mechanisms for parallel imports, that is, the import of original goods in a legal way, together with the information system will become a reliable tool to combat sellers bypassing the legislation of the Russian Federation.

In June 2022, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov announced numerous cases of sale of counterfeit products on the Wildberries marketplace. At the same time, the official noted that the company independently takes measures to combat the penetration of low-quality goods.

In August 2022, Wildberries announced the launch of a service in August to verify the authenticity of products by copyright holders. This initiative was proposed after being accused of selling counterfeit goods.^[1]
