2022: Hybrid Propulsion Truck Announcement
At the end of October 2022, the Ural Automobile Plant introduced a truck with a hybrid power plant. In the future, it is planned to create a fully electric machine, that is, without an internal combustion engine.
The power plant of a hybrid truck consists of a generator based on an engine running on liquefied natural gas, traction batteries and a traction electric motor. Drive of drive bridge is performed from electric motor due to electric energy accumulated in traction batteries. In the absence of the possibility of connecting to the mains for charging traction batteries, their recharging is provided by the on-board own generator plant. The supply of electric energy of traction batteries on this sample is enough for 100 km of track. The generator plant on board the stock of liquefied gas is capable of providing an electric energy supply of another 400-500 km.
As noted by the chief designer for commercial equipment of the plant Anton Akimov, a fully electric truck, which is being developed at the Urals, will be able to pass up to 300 km without recharging. The third model in the line will be a car with hydrogen fuel cells, he said.
By the end of October 2022, the automobile plant is also testing an unmanned vehicle created on the Ural-432067-73 chassis with a range of 800 km, as well as a second prototype of an Arctic bus.
Earlier in 2022, it was reported that Ural plans to increase truck production to 16 thousand units per year in the next two to three years. This is almost double the volume expected in 2022.[1]
