2016: Change of cloud strategy of VMware

On August 29, 2016 VMware announced change of strategy of work in the market of cloud computing. The company decided to focus on cooperation with suppliers of the competing public clouds.

At the VMworld 2016 conference (Las Vegas; On August 28 — on September 1) the solution Cross-Cloud Architecture by means of which corporate clients can start, manage and ensure safety of the applications working in private and public infrastructures such as was presented Amazon Web Services Microsoft Azure, IBM Softlayer and Google Cloud Platform.

Clients would like to use several public and private clouds for start of their applications, however they are frightened by a problem of management and software protection within different cloud platforms — the head of division of software-defined data centers of VMware says to Raghu Raghuram. — VMware provides freedom from a cloud and control of it, providing the general operating environment for all cloud environments by means of our unique solution Cross-Cloud Architecture.

VMware changes cloud work, having placed emphasis on implementation of support of applications in each devices and clouds. Despite all efforts the company could not compete with market leaders.

The analyst of Mizuho Securities from Abhey Lamba notes that at VMware badly it turns out to implement the products vCloud Air, and the company was left by the top managers Bill Fathers and Simone Brunozzi who are responsible for cloud business.

VMware selected a way of cooperation in the market of clouds, and IBM became one of the main partners of the company. From the moment of the declaration of the beginning of joint work in February, 2016 until the end of August more than 500 companies started virtual machines of VMware through IBM Cloud. Among them — the international hotel chain Marriott International.^[1]
