VMware Pulse IoT Center

Product
Developers: VMware
Date of the premiere of the system: 2017/05/19
Technology: Internet of Things of Internet of Things (IoT)

Content

VMware Pulse IoT Center is the complete solution on infrastructure management of Internet of Things (IoT) of the corporate level. It is designed to help the enterprises with deployment, management and protection of all IoT infrastructure which is available for them, including applications.

Among the key VMware Pulse IoT Center components - the product VMware AirWatch intended for device management and vRealize Operations for monitoring of infrastructure and elimination of the problems arising with it. At the same time, at it there are also new developments of VMware created by the command which is specially selected for the IoT direction.

2017

VMware Pulse IoT Center will enter the market until the end of the year

Until the end of 2017 the commercial version of a new solution of VMware - Pulse IoT Center - will enter the market, TAdviser in September the senior manager on development of IoT-business of VMware in EMEA region Matthias Schorer told. According to him, in Russia the product should become available along with global release.

According to the representative of VMware, the product will have the fixed price, taking into account regional price policy, but its final cost for the customer will be determined by the number of the connected IoT-devices.

Business in the field of Internet of Things is new to VMware

Shorer also told TAdviser that in the native market in the USA the solution as of September is already implemented in the pilot mode at a number of customers. Among them - bank, the company which is engaged in construction of amusement parks, the company occupied in automotive industry and some other. Their names in VMware do not open yet.

In a pilot project with VMware Pulse IoT Center in bank, in particular, sensors from Harman which collect data on indoor temperature which changes depending on number of the people who are there are used. The bank can determine by dynamics of temperature how many visitors at some point are in different zones of his departments, and taking into account it to automatically determine where, for example, at present it is required more or less personnel.

The similar scheme can be useful in the field of retail, Matthias Shorer considers: defining load of different zones of supermarket gives additional opportunities for optimization of the layout of goods and work of supermarket.

Other spheres where customers show the greatest interest in a new solution, he calls the industry and power.

In terms of promotion of Pulse IoT Center Russia is for VMware one of the most interesting regions in Europe, note in the company. Other representative of VMware told TAdviser that in Russia, after the USA, a number of customers are also going to pilot Pulse IoT Center. It is, in particular, about the companies in an oil and gas sector, power industry, the metallurgical industry, he says.

Matthias Shorer reported to TAdviser that VMware Pulse IoT Center at first will be available as a product to installation on the party of the customer. Further the company does not exclude to make it available and in the form of SaaS service. According to Shorer, it is difficult to estimate so far as far as such service will be popular in view of the fact that in many cases the data obtained from sensors can be a trade secret, and the companies are not ready to that someone from outside somehow adjoined to them.

Announcement of the solution

On May 19, 2017 the VMware company announced VMware Pulse IoT Center for infrastructure management of Internet of Things (IoT). Its main objective - to provide to IT commands and groups of operation of the companies full control over IoT-infrastructure and devices. In VMware told TAdviser several months prior to the announcement about plans for start of the solution and strategy in IoT. Read more here.

According to plans of developers, VMware Pulse IoT Center should simplify management of IoT-infrastructure of customers and their various devices and increase reliability of infrastructure. The last is provided due to providing authentic data on the status of IoT-devices in real time that it was possible to fix possible problems before their emergence in time. VMware Pulse IoT Center will accelerate return of investments (ROI), having arranged implementation and scaling of IoT-projects. Software will ensure safety of devices, perimeter, network and applications.

The technology uses the operating developments of VMware AirWatch for device management and VMware vRealize Operations for monitoring of work of infrastructure, search and fault recovery. It it is developed under specific complex needs and supports a number of the peripheral systems and the devices connected to them.

Overview of the main opportunities of VMware Pulse IoT Center

Expanded management:

  • connection, management, monitoring and protection of the various peripheral IoT-systems, attached devices and applications from a uniform control panel.
  • compatibility of the versatile peripheral systems and attached devices with the different equipment, operating systems and data transfer protocols.
  • determination and tracking of what devices will be updated in the "silent" mode (OTA) where and when — using the modern and flexible processor of rules.

"Smart" operation:

  • exact and relevant data on a device status, opportunity to prevent faults
  • analytical data on infrastructure and monitoring in real time.
  • possibility of visual representation of data on all peripheral systems, attached devices and the relations between them (the status, location, interdependence, etc.) and their grouping on the occasion of IoT application.
  • determination of KPI/measures, warnings and actions.

The improved protection:

  • protection of IoT-infrastructure, including all devices, perimeter, network and applications
  • Minimization of the unprotected data due to creation of a tunnel from data point to the application using the additional VMware NSX component.
  • Destruction of data from the devices which underwent security risks at the level of the company at any moment.
  • Maintenance of firmwares and security patches in current status, "silent" OTA software updating through the integrated processing subsystem the politician.

Innovations:

  • rationalization and acceleration of implementation and scaling of IoT
  • simple input in operation of scenarios of use of IoT using the uniform management tool for all devices.
  • payback of the devices entered into work and their updating
  • dynamic and timely providing necessary information from the required device on the periphery and in a cloud using program control lifecycle.
