Start of the Modern Network platform

On December 1, 2020 the VMware company announced start of the Modern Network platform for corporate users and commands on development.

As you know, capability timely is crucial for modern business and with the minimum costs to react to changes. Applications should work in any environment: from private to a public cloud, at the same time the user experience should be identical regardless of placement of the application and location of the user. According to VMware for December 1, already more than 18 thousand organizations upgraded the network infrastructure thanks to the solution Virtual Cloud Network of VMware. They passed to cloud computing, completely automated workflows and several times reduced time necessary for updating of the firewall or the balancer of loading. According to developers, Virtual Cloud Network is the complex and simple solution in use allowing to unroll applications and to provide their effective functioning.

"Our clients should manage effectively transition to remote work, organize fast and safe delivery of applications. Moreover, we understand that they need to reduce the cost of connection and protection of a distributed infrastructure — Rajiv Ramasvami, the operating officer on products and cloud services of VMware company noted. — The Modern Network platform was created just for this purpose. It will completely change traditional idea of corporate networks as about set of hardware devices, switches and routers. Instead she offers the descending approach in which users and applications are on the first place".

In traditional model the network consists of different devices — switches, routers, firewalls, the IDS/IPS systems, balancers of loading and other. They are installed separately and usually configured manually using processing systems of requests. Within such ascending approach the application is forced to use the existing infrastructure whatever it was. The Modern Network platform offers the descending approach: the network created in its framework understands requirements of the application and programmatically manages infrastructure for their accomplishment.

The solution Virtual Cloud Network created on the basis of a product family of NSX from VMware gives the opportunities earlier available only in public clouds, for the corporate workloads placed in a private cloud and a multicloud environment. As well as in a public cloud, NSX provides no-touch deployment of all workloads. NSX provides infrastructure services which are implemented in the form of the software on servers of standard architecture which are built in the pipeline of continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) for no-touch deployment of all necessary network services along with the application. Thus, the companies can unroll all workloads one mouse click without placement of requests for changes for which execution, using traditional approaches, weeks can be required.

To reach such level of work in a cloud, NSX provides the virtual stack of L2-L7 integrating switching, routing, network shielding, means of the analysis of security, the improved balancers of loading and network for containers. VMware gives an opportunity to provide the network connectivity and protection of environments for the applications of new type implemented in the form of containers, using Tanzu Service Mesh and provides support for Project Antrea — the project open source which implements network and security for the Kubernetes platform regardless of its placement. The solution Virtual Cloud Network works on physical servers, in the form of virtual machines, containers and on any cloud platform.

Announcement of Virtual Cloud Network

In May, 2018 the VMware company provided a virtual cloud network which basis was a virtualization platform of network for program data centers of VMware NSX.

The solution under the name Virtual Cloud Network is intended for creation of networked environment of the digital business allowing to connect and ensure safety of applications, data and users in the giperraspredelenny environment.

The future of network configurations — the software, therefore Virtual Cloud Network — network of the future — the operating officer on products said and cloud services of VMware company were said   by Rajiv Ramaswami.

According to him, using the updated product portfolio of NSX for network configurations and security clients will be able to implement architecture of Virtual Cloud Network and to receive a software-defined digital medium for business — flexible, programmable and initially more protected.

Due to the growing use of cloud services and the decentralized data centers of the company need the new networks having comprehensive architecture within private DPCs, public clouds, telecommunication networks, divisions and end devices. Besides, business needs safety features, managements and works with multicloud networks which provide the general operational model delivered from data center in a cloud and branch of the company. The solution portfolio of VMware NSX allows to implement the general operational environment for implementation, security and operation of Virtual Cloud Network.
