The product vCenter Operations is intended for management of services in virtual and cloud IT systems. The new product will become addition to 'the cloud operating system' of vSphere: if vSphere allows to simplify significantly distribution of computing resources and balancing of loading, then vCenter Operations will give additional opportunities for monitoring of performance, management of available resources and a configuration of IT systems. In total with analytical opportunities of vCenter Operations, the new product will allow to automate even more work of the cloud systems and to lower load of IT personnel.
Speaking more simply, vCenter Operations will take information from vSphere and to present it in more evident form that will simplify diagnostics of problems and will reduce the needs for manual control.
In effect, the announcement of a new product means that VMware is going to compete with such companies as IBM, HP and Microsoft whose products Tivoli, OpenView and Systemcenter are already widely used for the solution of similar tasks.
The product is available in three editions: the standard (standard) version with basic functions of monitoring by available resources and change tracking advanced (advanced) the version with a possibility of analytics and planning concerning available resources and the corporate (enterprise) version which will allow to manage both the virtual, and physical systems. The price of the license for one virtual machine for the standard version will be $50. The product will be available at the end of the first quarter of the current year.
The new meter panel and intelligent system of the notification will compare operational parameters and information on capacity for determination of again arising problems, helping clients to calculate truly scales of their infrastructure and also to define and fix the problems caused by configuration change. Besides, vCenter Operations Management Suite will have new abilities to manage privileges in applications which automatically reveal and visually display the relations and dependence between the infrastructure components supported by them applications. It means that clients will be able to optimize processes of infrastructure, such as security management and disaster recovery based on requirements of applications.
2014: Updating of VMware vCenter Operations for View 6
On April 11, 2014 VMware announced updating of VMware vCenter Operations for VMware View 6.0.
Updating simplifies and automates management of virtual environment using means of the analysis for data collection and visualization which are necessary for observance of the service levels and ensuring operational efficiency in dynamic hybrid cloud environments (generally large companies and service providers).
