VMware vCenter Operations Manager is a product for the analysis and problem solving of performance in the data-center of the company, means of forecasting of loading, implements the mechanism of "awareness on applications" which helps to build cards of dependence at the component level of applications for services of virtual infrastructure.
2013. New version of Operations Manager for Horizon View 1.5
Additions in this version
- agents of Operations Manager automatically are established now on virtual PCs together with agents of VMware Horizon View 5.2 (for versions of View 5.0 and 5.1 these agents it was necessary to set manually).
- scaling is improved – the first release of a product was limited by 3 thousand desktops, and now it is possible to observe for 8 thousand virtual PCs means of one copy of vCOPS. Besides, several Horizon View pods for one copy of the device is supported now.
- better than the monitor - now the engine of analytics is based on means of the product vCenter Operations Manager 5.7 working with a server framework.
- the dynamic metrics which are intellectually regulating ranges of observed value and reducing quantity of the alert received by a monitoring command are implemented.
Licensing
The product Operations Manager for Horizon View is licensed on number of simultaneous connections of users to infrastructure of VMware Horizon View.
Are not supported for monitoring by means of vCOPS yet:
- Physical PCs
- Pools of terminal servers
- View connection servers of version 5.0 on the 32-bit platform
- For the users working with virtual PCs through VMware Blast (browser), data are not collected.
The trial 60-day license Operations Manager for Horizon View 1.5 can be loaded on the website of vendor.
2013: vMware vCenter Operations Management Suite 5.8
On October 16, 2013 it became known of a release of version 5.8 of the product VMware vCO Management Suite.
Description
The product underwent a rekompilyation and now in its structure (in edition Enterprise):
- VMware vCenter Operations Manager is means of complex visualization of performance, resources and operability of infrastructure, operating systems and applications.
- VMware vCenter Configuration Manager - Software for control automation by a configuration of virtual and physical servers and continuous assessment of level of compliance to IT politicians, regulatory requirements and standards in the field of security.
- Monitors of physical hardware resources, operating systems, databases and applications are VMware vCenter Hyperic.
- VMware vCenter Infrastructure Navigator is the solution for automatic detection and visualization of components of applications and dependences of infrastructure.
- VMware vCenter Chargeback Manager is means of accounting and expense analysis for virtual infrastructure and also creation of reports.
Innovations
Monitor business critical applications
Now vCO monitors support Microsoft Exchange Server and SQL Server that significantly simplifies infrastructure management of Microsoft applications means of vCenter Operations Management Packs. Now for these and other applications it will be possible to trace specific metrics of performance and also interrelation between components.
For example, the status of the components MSSQL Agent, MSSQL Analysis, MSSQL Report and databases of MSSQL is traced. Let's note that Management Packs will be available only to the most expensive edition Enterprise.
Monitor fiber channel storage
Now vCO gives the chance to keep track of the status of storages at the level of the separate HBA adapter, all factory or the disk array. The main objective of such monitoring - the answer to a question why the subsystem of storage works slowly. Only FC storages are at the moment supported, but also support of iSCSI and NFS is promised.
Including, different types of errors (for example, CRC), latency and other parameters, characteristic of storages, are controlled. Infrastructure management packs will be a part of the vCenter Operations Management Suite Advanced and Enterprise editions.
Monitor Hyper-v servers
In this version monitoring of infrastructure not only VMware vSphere, but also Microsoft Hyper-V clusters, i.e. heterogeneous infrastructure is supported.
For this purpose the agent of Hyperic is established per Hyper-V host servers. It is also possible to use a packet of SCOM management pack for vCenter Operations (for those who control infrastructure via Microsoft SCOM).
When monitoring Hyper-V are available:
- Cluster, Host, VM Utilization is a top of 25 machines on CPU, Memory, Disk IOPS, the Network, etc.
- Datastore Capacity and Performance is the used disk space, Latency, number of commands per second, etc.
- Load Heatmaps – CPU, Memory, Disk, Network.
Monitor Amazon AWS services
For support of hybrid cloud infrastructures in VCOPS 5.8 there is a monitoring of infrastructure of Amazon, including EC2, Elastic Block Store, Elastic Map Reduce, Elastic Load Balancing and Auto Scaling Group means of a packet of AWS management pack.
vCOPS provides metrics on a panel of use of VM, including statistics on use of CPU, memory, a disk and other for services Amazon AWS.
Availability
The solution VCOPS 5.8 will be available in the middle of December, 2013.
2014: vCenter Operations Manager for View 6
On April 11, 2014 the VMware company announced improvements of vCenter Operations Manager for View 6.
In their structure:
- Support of VMware Horizon 6.
- Service up to 25 thousand users on one "entity" of a product.
- The single console for all transaction types.
- Performance metrics for guest OS and applications in it.
