2023: VPN Launch
On July 5, 2023, British mobile operator Vodafone Group and SandboxAQ, a division of artificial intelligence the holding (Alphabet parent structure), Google announced the launch from. VPN quantum encryption
It is noted that the emergence of quantum systems capable of quickly performing the most complex tasks that ordinary computers cannot cope with poses a threat to traditional cryptographic algorithms. And this can hit a variety of modern services - from email and applications for smartphones to corporate databases and government services.
On the one hand, quantum computing has the potential to quickly solve super-complex problems in key areas such as healthcare, but on the other hand, it can undermine modern cryptography. That's why we're exploring and testing new algorithms that will help ensure our customers are protected from possible quantum technology attacks in the future, said Emma Smith, Vodafone's director of cybersecurity. |
The developed VPN platform with quantum encryption is based on the algorithms of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The project used modified smartphones and SandboxAQ software for quantum-secure Internet protocols and analytics. Vodafone specialists conducted a series of experiments to test several scenarios for using VPN with quantum encryption: this is, in particular, connecting cellular devices to the server, as well as simulating a connection between the head office and a branch of the company. It is assumed that the project in the future will help in building networks resistant to hacking using quantum computers.[1]
