2018: Beginning of sales

The Japanese startup of Vaqso began sales of an accessory for devices of virtual reality (virtual reality, VR) using which users can feel specific smells depending on what occurs in VR space. Set is available to Vaqso VR developers on the website of the producer at[1], reported the New Atlas edition on November 21, 2018.[2]

The compact gadget in the form of a semicircle is connected to the VR headset using the micro USB connector or on Bluetooth and is located in close proximity to the user's nose. As the developer says, Vaqso VR can be used together with any VR helmet available in the market, including Oculus, Vive, Play Station VR and other models today.

Complete with an accessory there are five replaceable cartridges with aromatic liquid for their gas station. When using the VR headset, for example, during a computer game, Vaqso VR begins to exhale this or that aroma depending on events in the virtual world. It is supposed that activation of all three receptors of the user - visual, acoustical and olfactory - will allow to make feelings from stay in VR space even more realistic.

As of November, 2018 the Japanese startup offers 15 different aromatic compositions. Among them - natural (the ocean, burning/gunpowder, the forest, the soil), connected with food (coffee, caramel, chocolate, a curry, roast chicken), and several other aromas - colors, gasoline and also the zombie and woman. Cartridges with additional smells can be purchased separately at the price of $70 apiece.[3]

The startup works on expansion of the "odorous" range. Besides, the service in creation of individual aromas which cost is $3000 for one composition is available to corporate clients.
