2024: Tracked drones "Varan" transferred to the Russian army
The first batch of universal unmanned tracked platforms "Varan" came to the disposal of Russian servicemen participating in a special military operation. This became known at the end of July 2024.
According to TASS, Varan is a multifunctional tracked platform capable of transporting goods weighing up to 1.5 tons. The representative of the development company Bari Murtazin noted that this device greatly facilitates the work of military personnel on the front line. "Varan" is used to deliver ammunition, evacuate the wounded and can function remotely.
One of the key features of "Varana" is the "follow me" function. It allows the platform to automatically follow the serviceman without the need for constant control from the remote control. It is enough to fasten the carbine or put the control panel in your pocket, and the drone will move after the operator.
The versatility of the Varan platform allows you to install various equipment on it. In particular, it can be equipped with electronic warfare, electronic reconnaissance systems, machine guns or turrets. In addition, Varan can be used to carry out assault missions and mine the territory.
The developers of the tracked drone are actively cooperating with other manufacturers within the framework of the Kulibin Club of the Popular Front. This initiative is engaged in the selection, testing and support of serial production of promising domestic developments. Thanks to this interaction, it was possible to ensure the compatibility of Varana with various systems, including assault turrets and communication systems.
In addition to Varan, the developers near Moscow created the Avatar drone, which is already used in the zone of a special military operation. This drone is capable of traveling a distance of up to 10 kilometers and carrying a payload weighing up to 5 kilograms.[1]
