Veeam Backup for Linux is a free product for data backup of Linux systems.

On October 28, 2015 the Veeam Software company announced[1] release of Veeam Backup for Linux[1].

Veeam Backup for Linux works at a basis of the agent who is established in virtual or physical Linux OS. As a basis of backup the driver developed by Veeam for changed block tracking (CBT) is used.

The product Veeam Backup for Linux supports LVM (Logical Volume Manager) and own volume snapshot provider. A system is able to make backup copies of a set of file systems, doing snapshots at the block level, at the same time data of the snapshot are not on volume from which reservation, and on the selected storage device becomes.

In the first version of the solution OS will be supported Debian and Red Hat.

Basic functions of a product:

  • setup of a backup for different levels - the server entirely, the level of volume or separate folders and files. It will allow to vosstanalivat as completely the server, and separate files.
  • administrators will have an opportunity to use pre-freeze and post-freeze scenarios for preparation of a system for backup and creation of a jellied backup.
  • it is possible to manage the solution, both from a web konosli, and through the command line and files of a configuration.

Veeam Backup for Linux will be delivered together with SQLite where settings, statistics and other will be stored.

Veeam Backup for Linux is the free solution, but in the presence the user of Veeam Availability Suite or Veeam Backup & Replication has an opportunity to use a backup repository, added to their consoles as target. It will give the chance of observation of backup processes, to receive notifications by mail on complete tasks, to cipher files in backups and to write them on a tape or in geographically remote reserve of data.

Veeam Backup for Linux will be available at the beginning of 2016.
