2021: The announcement of Velys - the robot surgeon for prosthetics of a knee joint

At the end of January, 2021 the division of DePuy Synthes entering into group of Johnson & Johnson provided the Velys robot surgeon for prosthetics of a knee joint. According to the press release, Velys is the robotic system developed for installation of a prosthesis Attune according to the corresponding indications. According to developers, a system should enter the digital surgical Velys platform which will provide control of all process, from preoperative manipulations before rehabilitation.

DePuy Synthes submitted the robotic Velys platform as the first in own way desktop solution with effective design which, according to developers, can be integrated into any operating room. The company stated that a system adapts to workflow of the surgeon, provides the necessary level of control and executes exact cuts of bones. Besides, the Velys system offers these visualization and predicts stability of joints.

The diagram of stability of soft fabrics provides data on balance of a joint in all range of movements before accomplishment of bone cuts, thereby helping surgeons to estimate possible options and to select the most optimal. A system also provides exact, consecutive accomplishment of the plan of transaction. Johnson & Johnson and DePuy Synthes purchased the Velys system at Orthotaxy developer in 2018.

On a global scale robotics of the previous generation got into key orthopedic segments only for 5-10% of the market, - the chairman of DePuy Synthes group Aldo Denti in the press release noted. - However possibilities of combination of robotic and digital surgery are incalculable. In combination with Attune prosthesis the robotic Velys system is capable to improve significantly clinical results and to increase satisfaction of patients.[1]
