2018: Johnson & Johnson buys Orthotaxy
On February 21, 2018 the Johnson & Johnson company announced acquisition of the developer of technologies for carrying out surgeries of Orthotaxy within the plan for creation of the surgical platform with robotic support in the field of orthopedics. Financial and other terms of transaction are not disclosed. It is known only that the bought company will be integrated with the direction of the medical equipment of Johnson & Johnson.
According to the Dotmed edition, acquisition provides to Johnson & Johnson access to the robotic surgical solution Orthotaxy - the patented technology which is at an early stage of development for complete and partial replacement of a knee joint. Johnson & Johnson intends to expand application of this solution for a number of orthopedic procedures and to sell it as an inexpensive, effective and convenient product.
Suppliers of medical services and surgeons need technologies and solutions which help to reduce costs, to improve results and to increase satisfaction of patients, - Ciro Romer, the chairman of Johnson & Johnson group on orthopedic surgery of DePuy Synthes says. - Technologies should become a part of the complete platform which supports clients and patients throughout the entire period of treatment. |
Add to the companies that it is going to develop Orthotaxy technologies for increase in efficiency, reduction of stages of surgical intervention, performance improvement and simplification of load of surgeons and personnel during transactions.
Now this technology is not on sale and is not used in the clinical purposes. As expected, it will occur in the next two years.[1]
