Symantec Backup Exec 3600

The Symantec Backup Exec 3600 device is the solution based on the software of Backup Exec. The equipment is optimized under it by software. Technologies of deduplication of data, selective recovery and protection of virtual machines are built in the device. Change of the name with Veritas Backup Exec

In 2015 the name of the software solution Symantec Backup Exec was replaced with Veritas Backup Exec in connection with sale in August, 2015 by Symantec company of business on Veritas Technologies information management to group of funds. Read more here.

Symantec Backup Exec 15

In this version of Backup Exec 15 support of operating systems is updated taking into account the adopted schedule. New versions were added even in September updating of BE 2014 SP1 and the second service pack which appeared in December. Now the list of the supported OS is updated quarterly.

Among them there are as usual distribution kits for servers and workstations, and virtual systems. For example, in Backup Exec 15 it is possible to work with the popular virtualization platform of the VMware vSphere (5.1/5.5/6.0) servers and the system of hardware virtualization for x64 systems of Microsoft Hyper-V (2008/2012/2012R2). Technically basic level of support of Windows Server 10 is already implemented in BE 15, and complete will become available at once as soon as Microsoft officially submits new OS.

In general improvements of Backup Exec 15 affect three key areas:

• Adding of instruments of work with the virtual and cloud systems. In addition to already mentioned VMware vSphere 6, it is ESXi 6.0, vCenter 6.0, vSAN 5.5 and 6.0, support of the hyper converged infrastructure of EVO: RAIL, cloud platforms of Amazon of VLT and EC2.
• Opportunity for work with large volumes of data. Granular Restore Technology allows to use virtual disks more than 2 TB in BE 15, to work with storage area networks and to consider a possibility of hot connection of carriers.
• Reduction in cost of storage and reservation of each terabyte. Backup Exec 15 allows to execute the centralized deployment and system maintenance of data backup from one workplace. Transition to the new version of software is simplified: now it is possible from any versions of Backup Exec, since BE 2010 R3.

In the new version of Backup Exec users can integrate with the help of one program processes of creation of backup copies of all types, including the virtual systems and remote accomplishment of tasks. Backup Exec 15 supports recovery directly in a cloud or Amazon Glacier archive. Until the end of June it is going to add support of other cloud platform – Microsoft Azure. Users will be able to use at the same time both as means of increase in availability and data protection at emergence of network failures.

In addition to BE 2015 Capacity Edition which cost was reduced by 42% also the version with basic functionality – BE 2015 Capacity Edition Lite appeared. On June 9, 2014 the Symantec company announced a release of the new version of Backup Exec 2014.

2012: Updating of Backup Exec 2012

The flagship product of Backup Exec 2012 received at the beginning of 2012 the new graphical interface at the expense of which IT specialists even with basic level of qualification will be able to set and configure backup. Within the Backup Exec series as it is already mentioned, the new product Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition which provides backup and data recovery in the small organizations using only local resources is provided. The new service Backup Exec.cloud provides storage of backup copies with deduplication on servers of Nirvanix Cloud Service company. This service is expected clients who want to implement data protection in the form of external service without creation of own local infrastructure. Complete versions of packets of NetBackup or Backup Exec with an optional plug-in of Open Storage Technology (OST) of Cloud Storage for work with cloud storages are offered clients who are going to use hybrid model of data protection.

The packet of Backup Exec 2012 V-Ray Edition is intended for backup of exclusively virtual machines working under control of hypervisors of VMware and Hyper-V. The packet of Backup Exec 2012 V-Ray Edition allows to convert physical machines into virtual and back. Beta testing of Backup Exec 2012

The Symantec company began in November, 2011 official beta testing of the new version of the product Backup Exec 2012 among authorized partners.
