2019: Start of virtual power plant
On February 25, 2019 Kyocera announced creation of the virtual power plant managed by means of a blockchain. The technology designed to improve distribution of energy is created with participation of the LO3 Energy company specializing in creation of "intelligent power supply systems" on the basis of a blockchain for trade in the electric power.
The virtual power plant which start is planned for February 28, 2019 will consist of a distributed network of power sources which role will be executed by solar panels, drives of energy and active consumers. The peer-to-peer platform allows participants of this network to exchange the electric power independently.
The virtual power plant represents a hi-tech system which aggregates the electric power from several producers and/or consumers at once. It is possible to tell that such power plant actually manages behavior of both producers, and consumers. As producers in this case objects of the distributed generation, solar panels, biogas stations, wind stations, a cogeneration, small hydroelectric power plants and t.p can act. The consumers of the electric power owning refrigeration units, conditioners, greenhouses, drainage pumps, crushers, rolling mills, electrolyzers, etc. can act as consumers.
Within the project of Kyocera will create small virtual power plants using the solar photo-electric modules and batteries, and LO3 Energy will be responsible for flow control of energy by means of the technology of the distributed register.
The blockchain is applied to check and record of transactions and distribution of energy using own solar panels through micronetwork instead of big power supply systems.[1]
