Vistaseal (surgical sealant)

2019: Announcement

At the beginning of December, 2019 the Ethicon company which is a part group of Johnson & Johnson produced fibrinous Vistaseal sealant for a bleeding stop during transaction.

Sealant is used as an additional tool of a hemostasis at slight and moderate bleedings at adult patients after transaction when control of bleeding by standard methods (a seam, a ligature, cauterization) is inefficient or inexpedient.

Surgical patients often have a set of risk factors, such as koagulopatiya, uncontrollable diabetes, renal or liver failure, or anticoagulants accept or antiagregant - all this can affect natural capability of an organism to create blood clot that increases risk of surgical bleeding. In such cases sealant can come to the rescue.

Fibrinous Vistaseal sealant consists of a combination of fibrinogen and thrombin - fibrillation proteins. It should create quickly dense and strong blood clot on a wall of a vessel and support a hemostasis even at patients with high risk of repeated bleeding. Vistaseal delivered in previously filled syringes is the first fibrinous sealant which is specially developed for gas-free spraying in open and minimum invasive procedures.

He can be used without preset tuning and does not distract the surgeon, saving precious time in the operating room. In three randomized controlled studies use of sealant was followed by lower general frequency of repeated bleeding (from 0.9% to 7.8%), than at standard treatment (from 8% to 16.7%).

Vistaseal became the first product which entered the market as a result of strategic partnership between Ethicon and Grifol - the Grifol company developed sealant, and licensed it Ethicon company.^[1]
