VisualDx Skin Disease Diagnostic Service

Product
Developers: VisualDx
Last Release Date: October 2017

VisualDx is a mobile application for diagnosing various diseases by skin condition. Thanks to the Apple CoreML library, all pictures are processed directly on the mobile phone without uploading to the server. For "training" the program, about 32 thousand pictures were uploaded to it. The service is available by subscription at a price of $100 per year.

2017: Release of the iPhone version

In the fall of 2017, the VisualDx service received a new function: using the iPhone camera and machine learning algorithms, the application automatically detects the skin condition and issues a preliminary diagnosis. The program either detects diseases with high accuracy, or significantly narrows their circle, helping doctors and even patients themselves determine what they are sick with.

The app does not replace a dermatologist, but helps him make the right decisions and prescribe treatment according to the type of skin disorder. To do this, the program uses artificial intelligence algorithms that analyze images.

Using VisualDx, a doctor can photograph an area of skin that looks unusual, add additional data about the patient (such as the drugs he was taking and the countries where he traveled), and get suggestions as to what the pathology might be causing. The differential diagnoses displayed also have links to more detailed information about diseases that may cause a particular condition.

In an interview with Business Insider, VisualDx CEO Art Papier noted that patients should not rely entirely on the service.

People don't want to play doctors. But on Saturday, they want to know if they should call an ambulance for the child or if it can wait until Monday, when they can visit the pediatrician. The application teaches and filters options. It does not make diagnoses, we should not fully trust him. At least for several more years, we will not inform patients that everything is in order with them and should not consult a doctor, "Papier said.[1]
