2019: Volvo Cars expands functionality of a complex of security systems of IntelliSafe for earlier made cars

Volvo Cars announces upgradeability of the software of a complex of security systems of IntelliSafe in the XC90, S90 and V90 Cross Country cars of 2016-2018 model years. With its help earlier released cars will receive functionality which became available on SPA platform cars in 2019 model year. Updating is already available at official dealers of Volvo Cars.

New updating complements the available functions assistants of the driver in the IntelliSafe complex with all or some of listed below:

• function of prevention of a congress after the journey (Run-off Road Mitigation),
• function of monitoring of "blind" zones with taxiing (BLIS with Steer Assist),
• function of prevention of driving into the oncoming lane (Oncoming Lane Mitigation),
• function of determination of probability of head-on collision with automatic braking (Oncoming Mitigation by Braking).

Updating of functionality of a complex of security systems of IntelliSafe is individual and depends on model year of the car. All four functions while on cars of later model years some of above-mentioned technologies were already available on start of sales will become available to cars of the 2016th model year after updating of a security system.

2018: Development of the on-board computer

On October 10, 2018 the companies Volvo Cars also Nvidia announced cooperation increase. Two companies combine efforts for joint development hi-tech onboard computer with artificial intelligence (AI) for future Volvo cars.

C processor, developed based on technology DRIVE AGX Xavier from Nvidia, in future Volvo cars on SPA2 platform the advanced central processing computer will appear. The first such car will be provided at the beginning of the next decade, told in Volvo Cars.

In 2017 two companies began joint development of the advanced systems and their software for cars with a standalone mode of driving.

The processor is developed based on the last achievements of Nvidia company in the field of artificial intelligence and computing power of its products. It will allow Volvo Cars to make one more step towads to use of advanced support systems of the driver, technologies of energy management and also the built-in options of personalisation.

Together with the systems of the circular overview and monitoring of attentiveness of the driver the central processing computer will enter a contribution to creation of completely autonomous Volvo cars, consider in Volvo Cars.

The architecture of SPA2 platform represents the next generation of the modular SPA platform based on which models 60th and 90th of series are created. SPA2 saves in itself all advantages of modular architecture of SPA and involves the last technologies in spheres of electrification, connection and autonomous driving.
