2020: The announcement of the new WebBundles web standard from Google
On August 25, 2020 the information security expert of Brave Software company, developer of the browser of the same name, warned that the new standard offered Google under the name WebBundles can break all disablers of advertizing and, moreover, is considerable reduce security of web surfing. About it he wrote in the corporate blog.
The offered Google in November, 2019 the WebBundles standard should allow developers of websites to pack files of which the website consists (HTML-pages, files JavaScript, CSS and images) into uniform files.
It is necessary in order that the websites were easier to exchange. For example, to transfer from one smartphone to another on Bluetooth or to store on the USB stick. It will also simplify a problem of storage of the websites in the local area networks. According to authors, it will be easier to do it if all website is located in one file.
According to Pieter Schneider from Brave, the new standard will make impossible scanning of pages regarding existence of advertisements. Thus, disablers of advertizing will be just useless on such websites.
It is similar to PDF. It contains the text, images, video and all content in itself(himself). You do not need to load everything separately. It is enough to download one file. But there are also shortcomings. You cannot get the image from PDF and use it separately. Either everything, or anything. The WebBundles standard will turn the websites into some kind of PDF with which nothing can be made — he specifies. |
But what is more important, Schneider emphasizes, the new standard will give to the websites almost unlimited opportunities for a bypass of mechanisms of privacy protection which are offered now by some developers of browsers. And also will provide new perspectives to malefactors who will be able imperceptibly to build in malicious URLs and codes packets.[1]
