The Microsoft corporation announced on September 25, 2017 the version of Windows Server 1709 which became the first release in Semi-Annual channel (intends for installation of updates of times in half a year).[1]
In addition to Semi-Annual, Windows Server also extends on Long-Term Servicing channel. However regardless of the selected channel, Microsoft promises full control over updating of servers.
According to developers, Windows Server 1709 contains a number of improvements:
- The updated images of the containers Server Core by means of which users can with the minimum efforts transfer existing applications to containers. The size of images of the containers Server Core decreased by 60%, and the containers Nano Server — for 80%.
- Native support of the containers Linux. Will help to work with applications Linux on Windows Server to users the Windows Subsystem for Linux system.
- The browser Project Honolulu platform for management of Windows Server.
The release of Windows Server 1709 will take place on a cloud platform of Azure in October, 2017. In the middle of October subscribers of MSDN and Software Assurance within Volume Licensing Service Center will be able to download a system.
