2022: Robot announcement for help around the house
On June 9, 2022, Midea, a major Chinese home appliance manufacturer, unveiled Xiaowei, a smart robot that can perform recreational and protective functions as well as be a home assistant.
Xiaowei, a first-generation household robot, has a height of about one meter and resembles an elongated statuette with attractive features. Xiaowei has access to IoT devices and household appliances. For example, if Xiaowei feels that a family member will be coming home soon, he can turn on the lights and air conditioning in advance to create a comfortable temperature and atmosphere for his arrival.
The robot is able to identify family members using face and body tracking technology, making the versatile robot a reliable AI housekeeper that can also provide full comprehensive security. The user can program the robot to visit individual areas in the house, as well as to remotely monitor and patrol for safety.
In addition, Xiaowei has entertainment functions, since thanks to the built-in projector and other technological solutions, it can be used as a mobile cinema, music center and interactive gaming space, allowing you to entertain the whole family.
Thanks to the built-in 3D camera, the robot can scan the house in all directions, independently explore and map the space, recognize the properties of objects and generate semantic information. For example, using this technology, the Xiaowei robot understands what the sofa is and where it is, and when the user orders him to go to the sofa in his voice, Xiaowei will head to the sofa on his own, responding to a voice order. The Xiaowei home robot is expected to be released in the second half of 2022 under Midea Group's separate Wishug brand.[1]
