AIRPORT K?LN BONN (PSIairport)

Customers: Cologne-Bonn airport

Cologne; Transport

Contractors: PSI Logistics (PSI)
Product: PSIairport

Project date:

In July, 2000 operation of the first system for processing of baggage with the integrated system of approval of baggage (Baggage Reconciliation) and registration of island type at the German airport began.

Operating company of the airport Cologne/Bonn Gmbhpostroila new terminal (Terminal 2). The Vanderlande Industries GmbH company received the order for installation of a complex of sorting and processings of baggage (GFSA). The PSI Logistics GmbH company as subcontractor of Vanderlande Industries delivered for this project the computer control system, network and indication of the pipeline with the independent front-side bus for communication of the so-called scanner traffic light for processing and reconciliation of baggage.

The GFSA system is developed for round-the-clock operation, seven days a week. They sorts in rush hours up to 3000 units of baggage per hour on 51 sorting conveyors which are available at present. Integrated into the GFSA drive of in advance checked in luggage contains about 200 units of baggage and thus provides uninterrupted advance registration.

Task and implementation

The main objective was to provide high non-failure operation at the round-the-clock operation, seven days a week. It was reached by means of a cluster of high readiness of production of SUN Microsystems in a combination to specially configured software of development of PSI Logistics GmbH. Besides, peripheral components, such as displays of pipelines and scanners traffic lights locate reserve capacity.

The baggage which is handed over on front desks of passengers in island zones of control automatically, according to the diagram of managers, after passing of full control moves the computer host on the sorting device. The sorting computer obtains necessary information through the adjacent systems.

  • The computer host obtains information on the processed baggage via the central SITA interface (Cubes/MDS) from the airlines processing baggage
  • Information on the corresponding runs is sent via the interface to a management system for the schedule of flights
  • Results of stages of x-ray examination are transmitted from the computer host to the system of comparison of baggage and passengers belonging to the Federal Border Service.

Control of sorting is exercised of operators with assistance of information dialogs of the managing computer, in particular, by display of the work plan using the chart Ganta. Special functions of operator places, such as so "processing of opaque baggage" allow operators to cope with special cases easily.

For increase in standards of security at the airport Cologne / Bonn, depending on requirements of separate airlines, the baggage is loaded only when landing all passengers. It is provided with the scanners traffic lights which are specially developed for PSI logistics. If when scanning a suitcase (a system works on all 51 sorting conveyors), the green LED lights up, then it can be loaded and if the red indicator lights up, then loading is prohibited.

Configuration

The system with high degree of non-failure operation (a cluster of the increased reliability) consisting of two Enterprise 450 systems from SUN Microsystems guarantees continuous round-the-clock operation for seven days a week, even at failure of one of these two systems. Indicators of pipelines and scanners traffic lights are connected through duplicate systems of CAN buses with two independently working hubs of data with the central processing computer.

Data are stored in the Oracle database in an external RAID system. It ensures at failure of one of systems safety of all continuous data from other system.

In workplaces applications for the Windows NT operating system are used. Control of the equipment for transportation of baggage and the connected third-party systems are connected with the central system via the data transmission interfaces TCP/IP.
