The standing tasks

Muuga Container Terminal is the multifunction container terminal located in the free customs zone and providing the services in almost non-freezing port Muuga (Estonia).

The terminal has long-term contracts with such large shipping companies as TECO, UniFeeder, MSC, Maersk, TeamLines, Freselle.

Much attention on the terminal is paid to issues of accumulation of volumes of an overload of containers and quality excellence of services.

In 2004 the company management approved "The program of development of the terminal for 2005-2015". The program implementation key to success sees the management of the terminal in acceleration and process optimization of cargo handling through upgrade of production and development of modern technologies.

Such tasks, important for activity of any container terminal, as the exception of losses of containers and optimization of the mechanism of their search, a possibility of obtaining information on a terminal status in real time - require the operational solution. The management system for the container terminal was necessary for the terminal.

Solution

System implementation was dictated not only internal requirements of the terminal: strategic linear agents were also interested in gain of clearness and coordination of work of the partner as all of them are links of one logistics chain.

The competent wording of requirements to a management system for the container terminal allowed to outline a circle of possible system providers of this class. During the choice of the solution by the management of the terminal a number of offers of several companies was considered. The choice fell on SOLVO company as successfully proved, first, as the reliable partner, and secondly as system provider for big customers.

The Solvo.CTMS system working on the Muuga terminal since 2005 includes management systems for the container platform, data exchange of participants of technology process in real time using mobile radio terminals in the wireless network of standard 802.11.

All processes of cargo handling, including such important tasks as receiving up-to-date information about a terminal status in real time, an exception of loss of containers, optimization of mechanisms of their search are automated. All this strengthened the clearness and coordination of operation of the terminal, created an opportunity for increase in its power. So, for example, in 2006 more than 150 thousand TEU, and in 2008 – already were processed by 181 thousand TEU.

Advanced technology of operation of the terminal increased its attractiveness for the existing clients and allowed to attract new customers.

As a result of works on Solvo.CTMS system implementation on Muuga CT there is created and underwent successful approbation the new technology: graphical interfaces of a system were changed, there was a possibility of obtaining a large number of required data for one selection that considerably expanded analytical systems capabilities.

Development of a system

In 2009 the next stage of the project on development of a management system for the container Solvo.CTMS terminal in AS "Muuga CT" was completed. According to the agreement between the companies the new module of graphic display and editing topology of the terminal was integrated into a system, interfaces of managers are updated.

The module gives the chance to obtain all visual information on topology of the terminal, its fullness, location of containers and personnel.

All information is displayed on the scheme representing a view of the container terminal on top with scaling options. Use of different filters for display of a situation on the terminal is possible. Color selection of the filtered containers is provided. Zones of the terminal can be browsed in the form of tabs for the purpose of operational work, editing, comparison.

The special option allows to execute check of topology of the container terminal on lack of potential errors: mutually intersection of objects, hit of an object for borders of zones, etc. For the choice from base of containers with certain parameters (container length, load type, a cell, vessel call, etc.) the convenient system of search is implemented.

Detailed information on each container (unique number, ISO, type, length, weight, the direction is provided in the list of containers (loading on transport or unloading on the terminal). Here necessary information on a load and its owner, transport information is provided.

Plans for the future

It is planned that with expansion of the container terminal, emergence of new platforms and types of the equipment also the automation system will develop.
