2024: Implementation of comprehensive protection against DDoS attacks

StormWall, in collaboration with data center and cloud integrator OXYGEN, has implemented comprehensive protection against DDoS attacks in ATOL. The company has integrated the new service into the development environment of software and equipment for trade, which is used throughout Russia. StormWall announced this on January 20, 2025.

Cooperation between StormWall and ATOL began in April 2022. At that moment, powerful DDoS attacks organized by hacktivists with political motivation hit ATOL's IT infrastructure. The incidents caused failures in the company's cash systems in several regions, which required the connection of enhanced protection. As an OXYGEN client, ATOL gained access to StormWall services, which gave the company the opportunity to effectively take advantage of cloud protection against DDoS attacks.

As soon as possible, StormWall has implemented ATOL protection that covers all levels of DDoS attacks from L3-L5 to L7 and ensures uninterrupted operation of the equipment. The current StormWall system is capable of repelling attacks up to 4500 Gbps, protecting against all known types of DDoS attacks, including attacks on network and application layers according to the OSI model.

At the end of 2024, StormWall noted an increase in DDoS activity against Russian companies, in particular in the trading sector, as well as an increase in the number of attacks known as "carpet bombing," which cover a wide range of IP addresses. For RetailTech enterprises, such as ATOL, reliable protection of cash systems is extremely important, since it ensures uninterrupted purchase and sale transactions and contributes to the sustainability of the economic sector.
