On July 25, 2018 the Rostelecom company announced creation in Samara of intellectual transport infrastructure within the Safe City project. 57 intersections in Samara on Moskovskoye Highway, streets New and Garden and Democratic are connected to the automated control system for traffic (ACST). About 300 detectors collect information on traffic and on optical communication links transfer it to the center of the organization of traffic.
"Application of an intellectual hardware and software system on roads – one of components of the large-scale project "Safe City" implemented in the Samara region. We build digital infrastructure at all levels of life support of the modern megalopolis: from means of the notification at emergencies before monitoring of power supply of apartment houses". Sergei Ivanov, director of the Samara branch of Rostelecom company |
For connection of road devices to ASUDD, Rostelecom constructed 2 km of the cable sewerage and stretched more than 10 km of fiber lines of communication. Besides, alternative channels thanks to which it is possible to add additional controllers, detectors and traffic lights are provided.
The server installed in the joint center of the organization of traffic manages a system. Operators of the center round the clock monitor a situation and adjust work of automatic traffic controllers. Depending on a situation on roads they control traffic flow, increasing or reducing time frames of signals of traffic lights.
As a result the movement on the busiest roads of the regional capital became more uniform. On some sections there was "a green wave" — a period of time for which drivers can pass several intersections in a row on the resolving traffic light signal. It gives the chance to save optimal motion speed and to minimize quantity of jams on city roads.[1]
