2023: Reverse Osmosis System Automation

Agrovet and ARIES implemented a project to automate the reverse osmosis system. ARIES announced this on January 15, 2024.

The company "Agrovet" develops and produces veterinary immunobiological preparations - vaccines and diagnostics for serological tests, which are necessary for the detection of infectious diseases of animals. The biotechnological complex in the Kirov region is designed and operates in accordance with all the requirements of GOST R 52249-2009 and GOST R ISO 14644-3-2020, and is also certified according to GMP standards. The company's medicines are sold in Russia, and are also exported to the countries of Central, Central and Southeast Asia, Transcaucasia, the Middle East, and North Africa.

The world and Russian pharmacopoeia standards have high requirements for the operating conditions of equipment, the organization of processes and process media, for example, ventilation and air conditioning systems, water treatment, compressed air, etc.

Water for biotechnological purposes should be purified and protected from re-contamination, proliferation and spread of microorganisms, should not contain antimicrobial preservatives and other additives, − said Stanislav Yudin, technical specialist at Agrovet ACS.

In 2023, the company implemented a project to automate the reverse osmosis system, which manages the preparation of water for cleaning premises and washing tanks.

Stanislav Yudin notes that production processes require up to 6,000 liters of injection-quality water per month. Periodically, the company stops production for technological reasons. Earlier in these cases, Agrovet technical services preserved cleaning membranes in reverse osmosis plants, and then started washing membranes manually. To do this, the water flow was redirected to the sewer, conductivity measurements were taken before reaching the operating parameters, water was redirected to the tanks.

As a result of the modernization of the reverse osmosis system, it became possible to adjust the periodic washing of membranes and maintenance of the system in automatic mode. Osmotic water then goes directly to the facility where it is needed or to the distillation system.

Prior to use, the Company shall check the quality of treatment and characteristics of water in accordance with the Protocol "Monitoring of Water for Injection," developed within the framework of the Rules of Good Manufacturing Practice of the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Russian FS.2.2.0019.18 Pharmacopoeia Standard.

During the tests, Agrovet technologists evaluate the physicochemical and microbiological parameters of water. The first group includes electrical conductivity parameters, pH, dry residue, reducing substances, carbon dioxide, nitrates and nitrites, ammonia, chlorides, sulfates, calcium and heavy metals. Microbiological testing includes an assessment of the purity and presence of bacterial endotoxins.

During the modernization of the reverse osmosis unit, in addition to the KosMaster controller, additional ARIES equipment was installed. Stanislav Yudin notes that to indicate the temperature of purified water and maintain the temperature of the coolant (PMS-10) in the jacket of the purified water tank, a universal ITP-16 analog signal meter and a number of sensors are used. These include PD100I-DIV pressure transmitters (0.5-171-0.5), DTS214-100P temperature sensors, a Clamp-connected MDP- 3N.2.1300.300.CL65 level sensor that is connected to KosMaster, a Clamp-connected emergency PDU-2N.200.CL40 level sensor, and a dual-channel BP07B-D3.2 power supply.

In January 2024, the company plans to expand production and is developing a workshop project in which a full-cycle line will be installed that works without human participation. To implement this project, it is also necessary to create a water and air treatment system in accordance with Russian and international pharmacopoeia standards.

ARIES has proven itself well as a manufacturer of competitive automation and instrumentation. We always receive the necessary technical support on all issues. Therefore, the implementation of distributed computing and process control systems of the new production line is planned on the basis of ARIES equipment, - added Stanislav Yudin.
