Alibaba invests $30 million in IT infrastructure in Russia

In November, 2017 it became known of $30 million investments of Internet giant Alibaba Group into development of the IT infrastructure in Russia. Within this project the company leased data center.

As the representative of AliExpress in Russia Anton Panteleev told RBC, the company rented one of data centers in Moscow. At the first stage 200 server racks will be set (standard cabinets for placement of the equipment).

The owner of this DPC in Alibaba was not called, but, according to the edition, it is about DataLine company. The Orange Business Services company which provided six channels with capacity of 10 Gbps acted as the operator of the new platform and will render technical support services.

According to Anton Panteleev, Alibaba rents server capacities in Russia since 2015, but earlier amounts of data were less and were stored in several data processing centers. Start of new data center will allow to collect all information in one place.

The representative of AliExpress also reported that after start of own data center in Russia the average speed of loading of pages on trade electronic platforms AliExpress and Tmall will increase by 20% for the Russian users. In addition, the data center will allow the company to begin development of services especially for the Russian users (for example, the search engine in Russian).

In new data center all IT operations of the company in Russia will be processed, including to be stored personal data of the Russian users of Alibaba services within performance of the relevant law.[1]
