How Domino's uses artificial intelligence for fast delivery of pizza

Customers: Domino`s Pizza

Contractors: Nvidia
Product: Nvidia DGX Supercomputers

Project date: 2020/01

In the middle of January, 2020 it became known that Domino Pizza decided to improve a delivery quality using artificial intelligence. For this purpose the network of pizzerias began to use the servers working on the graphic processors Nvidia T4. It allowed the company to use AI for forecasting of delivery time.

Domino also decided to use the system of deep learning Nvidia DGX with eight graphic processors Tesla V100. According to the statement of the company, AI trained pattern discriminations of pizza at an example of more than 5000 photos. These images went customers in exchange for points which could be exchanged for pizza within the loyalty program.

Our team of experts on data processing was sure that delivery of pizza - the great application for opportunities of artificial intelligence. We created model which classifies images of pizza and allows to control their delivery, and it was already successfully started in a number of pizzerias, - AI and data processing specialist Zack Fragoso explained.

According to Domino, the Nvidia T4 servers predict load and runtime of different tasks, including can prompt to the buyer when his order is ready. The company could increase the accuracy of the predictive model from 75% to 95% thanks to accounting of such factors as the number of employees and managers and also quantity and complexity of orders. But the considerable role was played also by use of the powerful graphic processors Nvidia.

Domino's also studies a possibility of use of artificial intelligence with the graphic processors T4 from Nvidia for applications of computer vision which should increase convenience of work with several clients.[1]
