2025: Gas Piston Power Plant Launch
AUCHAN Retail Russia has launched a pilot gas piston power plant based on the Moscow hypermarket AUCHAN Altufyevo. This equipment not only supplies the hypermarket with electricity, but also contributes to a significant decrease in the carbon footprint. The project has become an important part of the company's sustainable development strategy and energy autonomy. The company announced this on April 2, 2025.
The gas piston power plant provides autonomous power generation for the entire hypermarket, including the trading floor, gallery and common areas. Every month it generates from 650 thousand to 750 thousand kWh of electricity, which covers 80-90% of the store's needs. For uninterrupted power supply to the store, an additional connection to the city network is provided, which compensates for the remaining energy demand. This solution ensures reliable operation of all systems of the facility even in case of load fluctuations.
In addition, the equipment will reduce emissions CO2 by almost 900 tons annually. Such a significant ecological effect is achieved by minimizing losses during to transportation and transforming energy, as well as by using cogeneration technology, which helps to maximize the energy generated by the plant for heating the building and preparing hot water.
The construction and launch of the gas piston power plant reflects the approach of ASHAN Retail Russia to the implementation of projects in accordance with the ESG principles. We are committed to energy autonomy and improving the energy efficiency of our facilities. Own energy generation will significantly optimize electricity costs, as well as reduce the negative impact on the environment, - said Oleg Ignashin, Director of Technical Operation of AUCHAN Retail Russia. |
