Auchan upgraded IT infrastructure using servers of IBM

On May 21, 2019 the company IBM reported that within upgrade of IT architecture Russian division Auchan Retail selected servers IBM for upgrade of the IT architecture.

In network on May, 2019 more than 300 shops of different formats work and more than 41 thousand employees work. The growing volumes of work created serious load of IT infrastructure which we did not update more than seven years. Together with it also operating expenses on maintenance of work of infrastructure grew that did not allow to perform step-by-step upgrade.

Thanks to transition to the servers of IBM based on the POWER9 processor working running the IBM i operating system we released space in a data processing center as in comparison with the equipment of last generations for the solution of working tasks less servers were required. Besides, we began to save on the electric power and software licenses and that is even more important, saved a reserve on loading and had an opportunity of further scaling of architecture. Thereby, we achieved noticeable decrease in operating expenses at performance improvement.

Whether our buyers and partners will feel a difference? Of course and, because IT infrastructure will not brake growth of retail network or its activity any more.

Updating of a part of infrastructure in shops and use — where it is possible — cloud services will be the next step.
