At the end of November 2021, it became known about the agreement reached between the companies Baikal Electronics and GS Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Baikal processors will be assembled at the capacity of GS Nanotech (part of the GS Group) in the Kaliningrad region.
The contract relates to the housing process - the installation of chips in the housing. This is one of those technological processes that can be transferred to the country, thereby forming most of its added value within Russia, writes RBC with reference to the general director of Baikal Electronics Andrei Evdokimov. Prior to the deal with GS Group, Baikal chips were housed in foreign factories.
Baikal Electronics expects that housing in Russia will cost the company cheaper than abroad. So, the process of packaging and assembling chips (switching) can determine up to 50% of the cost of production, said RBC Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Electronics Developers and Manufacturers (ARPE).
According to the managing director and co-owner of KNS-Group (produces servers under the Yadro brand) Alexei Shelobkov, the transfer of any significant stage in the production of high-tech products to Russia allows you to increase the expertise and competence of the country.
The prospects for cooperation, of course, depend on the conditions, it is difficult to judge here, since we do not know exactly what kind of production is created, under what types of products and how much this can be used by other Russian developers of the electronic component base, "he said. |
GS Group production development director Fedor Boyarkov called cooperation with Baikal Electronics one of the landmark steps towards the revival of the Russian microelectronic school, "since, according to him, no one has collected such a level of microcircuit in Russia so far[1]
