In mid-May 2021 the Finnish logging , the company Stora Enso announced the start of pulp supplies for the Pulpex packaging company, which was created by the British manufacturer of premium alcoholic beverages Diageo, among the products of which Baileys liquor and Guinness beer.
Stora Enso and Pulpex will also collaborate to build a scalable high-speed bottle production line and other pulp fiber packaging that is scheduled to launch in 2022.
The first high-speed line will be a demonstration of whether we can do this on an industrial scale and at the expected cost level, "said Sohrab Kazemahwazi, senior vice president of Stora Enso's formed paper fiber division. |
In addition to Diageo brands, Pulpex said it is collaborating with Pepsi, Unilever, GSK and Castrol, which intend to produce 750 million paper bottles per year together. According to Kazemahwazi, bottles are made by molding pulp directly into a mold without first making a flat board. Then the bottle is covered with plastic, but will still fall into the stream of paper waste, he added.
We do not use the barrier from PET, and if we use plastic, we want the bottles to be recyclable, and in case they fall into nature, biodegradable, "explained Sohraba Kazemahwazi. |
Pulpex specializes in the production of bottles from renewable, recyclable and biodegradable cellulose. This packaging option can significantly improve the carbon footprint of glass bottles (saving 90%) and PET (saving 30%), reducing recycling rates, providing access to recycling infrastructure, and removing harmful plastic fibers from the environment.[1]
