The Baltika brewery addressed implementation of BPM and BI solutions in the field of logistics to optimize a company performance in difficult market conditions.

The producer of low alcohol products the St. Petersburg company Baltika completed implementation of a BPM system using Business Intelligence (BI) technology on the Monolith platform. The company uses also long ago the ERP platform of the same vendor.

In official release about project finish of Monolit-Info company it is said that increase in efficiency of business processes of the company became a main goal of the project. Recently conditions in the market of production of beer became very adverse for its participants: the excise on products trebled, and the market was reduced. For the first quarter 2010, according to Rosstat, the brewing industry reduced production volumes by 19.7% in comparison with the same period of last year.

When at the beginning of 2010 triple increase in an excise on beer took effect, and in January the amount of transportations of products at the company dropped almost by 80%. At the same time the logistics for which optimization a BPM system was implemented is one of the most expensive categories in expenses of Baltika.

The important project task was to reduce dates of receipt of up-to-date logistic data. Earlier preparation and information processing for creation of the majority of analytical reports made 2-3 days that also their data in the uniform report were connected with big labor costs on data acquisition from different sources. The additional inconvenience was caused by different techniques of data processing. Besides, the flexible interface and an opportunity to process more 1tb data was the requirement to the solution.

After the analysis of possible options the decision making support system using OLAP technologies (Online Analytical Processing) allowing to process quickly advanced queries to the database was selected. Monolit-Info executed the project in 8 months.

During the project the corporate data warehouse was created. Data sources are all system modules "ERP Monolit" and other data sources. Measure calculation is implemented in a multidimensional database (cubes of SSAS). Also the necessary number of reports was developed for the operational analysis of key activities. Users of a system are heads of divisions and analysts of directorate on logistics of Baltika in all territory of Russia (more than 100 active users).

The project defined a circle of opportunities for further development in this direction, namely: closer integration of the existing corporate information system of Baltika which core is "ERP Monolit" at the level of communication of data, optimization of the existing business processes.

According to Sergey Babinsky, the logistics director of JSC Brewing Companies Baltika, implementation of BI allowed to analyze activity of service of logistics with higher quality; in the future development of BI in the company will allow to strengthen control over all links of a chain of creation of added value.

According to the TAdviser center, the food industry takes the 4th place among other industries on the frequency of implementation of BI systems. Among the companies which are already using BI tools - Valio, Danon, Nestle Russia, "Kampomos", "The Russian product", Coca-Cola and others.
