Bayer begins to use a blockchain for supply control of drugs

At the end of May, 2020 Bayer announced the beginning of use of a blockchain for supply control of drugs. For development of the platform the pharmaceutical giant selected VeChain company. This will allow divisions of Bayer to trace clinical medicines in process of their promotion on a supply chain.

A system received the name CSecure. Numbers of a series connected with specific medicine are loaded into a blockchain and then used for tracking of medicine in process of its promotion on a supply chain. At the same time in defined to points along the line in a blockchain time marks and the identification information of the user are brought. Thanks to a blockchain this information cannot be changed that allows to trace a way of products authentically.

To find the developer of the platform, Bayer organized special competition in 2019. The main objective of tender was to find the solution which "would increase data transparency, efficiency and traceability of management of medicines in clinical trials". Competition was won by VeChain company which offered an implementation opportunity a solution blockchain. This offer was approved and afterwards is processed into CSecure.

All CSecure system is based on ToolChain which is the patented BaaS ("a blockchain as service"). ToolChain allows VeChain company to create and develop complete solutions for the distributed ledger according to personal needs and preferences of the client.

Earlier Chinese divisions of Walmart supermarket chain and PwC accounting company announced that they also integrated with VeChain for joint work over development new a solution blockchain for tracking of food in China.[1]
