NIC "Kurchatov Institute" and specialists of the companies "Innopraktika" and "Miratorg" have developed and implemented an AI-system for evaluating cattle for its effective cultivation.. This was announced at the end of February 2024 by the head of the center Maxim Patrushev.

According to him, traditional methods of selecting individuals do not take into account genetic factors, which can affect the characteristics of the offspring. The developed artificial intelligence system will allow you to take into account all parameters, including genetics, diet and conditions of detention. Using artificial intelligence algorithms, she analyzes the data of hundreds of thousands of animals, optimizing the process of planning a pair for selection. The technology increases the efficiency of breeding individuals by reducing the risks of developing diseases in them or the appearance of other negative signs at the stage of selecting a pair, Patrushev said in a conversation with TASS.

An AI system for evaluating cattle has been developed

According to him, when using the system, 14 diseases are taken into account, the treatment of which forces individuals to withdraw from the milk production cycle, which entails economic damage for enterprises.

This system, which we hope should become national, is an IT infrastructure. It collects data on each breeding animal used in production, - says the head of the genomic center of the Research Center "Kurchatov Institute." By processing data on hundreds of thousands of animals, the solution will allow, for example, to achieve the desired economic effect in the form of milk production volumes from each future cow at the stage of planning a couple for selection.

By the end of 2024, the AI cattle assessment system works with two of the most popular breeds of cows: Holstein and Ayrshire. A similar technology is also planned for pigs.[1]
